City Launch Thornton Investigation

By Covsupport News Service Thursday, 18th June 2009

Investigation launched

Coventry City have launched a full investigation after hearing that midfielder Kevin Thornton had been found guilty of motoring offences.

The Irishman was found guilty failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving with excess alcohol, driving without a full licence and with no insurance. He was fined £2,750 and ordered to pay costs and compensation of 260.

On hearing this, the club who didn't know about this, issued a statement saying: "City officials have met with the player and a representative from the PFA and are now looking further into the matter.

"We take all matters of discipline extremely seriously and have to go through the relevant procedures. We are urgently looking into this matter and have spoken to the player and several other parties surrounding what has taken place.

"The process is on-going and we will be having formal meetings with the player and his representatives before the matter reaches a conclusion.

"The club will be making no further comment until the conclusion of its investigations."

I thought Slade was trying to get shot of the drinking culture, so I doubt we'll be vaguely interested. Expect him to end up on the bench at Port Vale next season.

Wouldnt want him , quite fancy at times but not sure he is that effective. Similar to the way Seb Carole has an effect on games.

I can see Thornton being released from his contract by mutual consent.

That family has issues, wasn't his brother Sean in trouble up at Sunderland for excessive drinking?

His life style problems are pretty well known by all everyone and is the reason he didn't figure in the team as much as he could have done last season when with us (not because Micky was being thicky).
Yet another in the long list of flawed flair footballers.

.

Er, Yes and no.

Off-pitch nonsense did limit Thornton's playing time, BUT Adams did re-sign him for an extra month regardless [then didn't use him again]. That's pretty thicky.

The only thing that gets me about that is if they knew all about Thornton's life style and thats why he did'nt figure in the team too often then why did we bother to extend his loan from the initial 6 weeks?
