Its a ligament connected to the two main bones above and below your knee. It helps you twist and turn. There are other ligaments who help but this is the main one. When its ruptered it needs replacing, it cant be mended. There are options for the surgeon, ehen mine went they took a slice off another ligament and screwed in place of the old acl
