Debut game on July 22 against Spurs. Can’t deny that it will be good to see him play, but cant help feeling that he will be a fish out of water and that it is a similar stunt to LA Galaxy signing Beckham and we all know what happened there. The real problem is that are not really that many players of his caliber in MLS. There are a few players like Ljungberg at Seattle and Donovan at LA Galaxy but nothing to really challenge him. Most MLS sides are League 1 equivalent.

Should be a decent signing though. They might start filling RBA regualrly and MLS really desperately needs a strong NY side, seeing as NY is the media hub of the USA.

The MLS would be a result for any player in the twilight of his career I would have thought, fantastic place to live, decent money, none of the pressure, possible path to resident status if you want to stay on after you retire.

You got to envy the modern day top flight footballer. Even when you're past it there are plenty of big money opportunities in the USA or the United Arab Emirates.

Conceivably, someone like Ashley Cole could be playing until he's 45.
