Minton crowned Player of Round
Canvey Island hotshot Jeff Minton has achieved his latest goal after being presented with the FA Cup 'Player of the Round' award, run in partnership with UMBRO on Thursday evening...
Minton netted a hat-trick in the FA Cup third qualifying round - helping the Islanders overcome a 3-1 deficit with just nine minutes remaining - and was presented with a gleaming silver salver in front of his team mates at Thursday's training session.
Not only has Jeff also received an UMBRO kit player package including XAI boots and a selection of training gear, he has decided to donate his prize of £1000 worth of UMBRO football kit and equipment to local football school, Pass Soccer School at Little Waltham, Chelmsford.
Jeff said: "Winning the award is fantastic. It was great to have my teammates round me when I was presented with the prize; they deserve as much recognition as me."
Minton was voted Player of the Round thanks to thousands of fans voting for him on-line. He and two other players - Mangotsfield United's David Seal and Buxton's Caine Cheetham - were short-listed for the award from over 900 players who took part in the FA Cup third qualifying round, and Jeff polled 50 per cent of the votes cast on-line at TheFA.com.
