Goes to our man from The Times, who said:-

"The Withdean Stadium evokes a second-rate American high school complex"

So uncannily right! That spot-on comparison was surely inspired by Withdean's US-style, Education Dept-approved, on-site Pub. Or was it perhaps our beloved stadium's inbuilt treat for any American lardarse parent, the two mile automobile total exclusion zone?

The Pulitzer Prize surely cannot be far off for Mr Tony Evans.

Maybe we should compile, for posterity, a Hall of Shame for the worst examples of Withdean description. Any more examples?

Didn't Lou Macari say that playing at Withdean was "like playing a pre-season game at a Norwegian third division ground". I can see where he's coming from, to be fair.

Even Mark McGhee ws moved to describe it as an "embarrassing dump" on The Championship yesterday. I encountered an embarrasing dump once, when one of my turds wouldn't flush away at a girlfriends house. I had to break its back.

Telegraph today sums it up quite nicely....."The poky Withdean Stadium would barely be considered adequate in the Conference...."

Nice end to the report though...."Withdean will surely see Championship football again next season"

Easy..what about the noxious fumes that emanated from the aforementioned turd? I find that the physical content of one's bowels can be dealt with by flushing but the fumes are a different kettle of fish. Some 'bogs' have no tin of Tesco 'Summer meadow' or a fanlight to leave open.

Very embarrasing at parties if you have a noxious clearout with a queue outside the door.

Once again someone appears to have fallen into the trap of 'If its something bad about us, it's a shit article - and if it's nice, it's great'.

Withdean does look exactly like a school sports field, American or otherwise. And once your own manager has correctly described the place as an embarrassing dump, there really is little point in berating neutral third parties for their observations.

It's not just inadequate for the Conference. It fails to meet their minimum standards, which ban stadiums shared with athletics tracks.

I guess if we had to stay at Withdean for the next twenty years and ended up being relegated to the Conference, they would make us stay up in League Two until we'd dug up the running track.

Absolutely.
Its also quite amazing the ferocity of the pungent assault as soon as you break a turd in half - it seems to get a whole new lease of foulness once you've broken it open. The initial odour is nothing compared with the all-encompassing sickly stench that engulfs the bathroom once the hull has been breached.

And TG seems to have somewhat missed the point of the thread. It's about highlighting really BAD metaphors used to describe Withdean. Not about getting into a hissy-fit because the papers have criticised it, FFS!!

Of course our gaff is crap, but that American school comparison is piss-poor, lazy journalism, unbecoming of a once-great newspaper of record.
