Yep, just starting S4. I'm getting close to the end, and I don't want it to happen!!!
My fav so far has been S2, but, shit, they are ALL amazing.
Just read George Pelecanos' 'Right as Rain, which was excellent.

Oh, and Im deeply in love with Diedre Lovejoy. Phwoooorrrr!!!!

Reading Homicide a year on the killing streets and to say it is bleak is an understatement! Compelling reading however.

Not read any of this thread in case of any plot hints. I'm halfway through series two. Definitely the best thing I've seen since Sopranos.

If anyone hasn't watched it then do yourself a favour and get on Amazon to buy the first series. Less than £15. Bargain.

For me it tops The Sopranos, which was always entertaining but at times a little too predictable and went a bit wobbly on occasions (such as Tony's dreams/hallucinations).

series 4 was the best for me, try watching the corner, its like a low budget more depressing version of the wire, almost like a pilot series. Has alot of the same actors playing very different roles.

You are, it is great, but the prospect of seeing it for the first time is fab.

Not in the same class as The Wire, but I very much enjoyed Brotherhood.
Its from the US network showtime and its about organized crime and politics in Rhode Island, its worth watching just to see the legend that is Jason Isaacs

Sometimes when I`m telling friends about how good it is and how they just have to watch it I feel like one of those religious nutters who have just found God and cannot shut up about it. This from someone who watches very little tv apart from sport.

I let a mate of mine have all 5 series on DVD and he was totally gobsmacked how good it was.

There is a huge sense of disappointment at the end of series 5 that there is no more to come though.

I`m still grieving El Pres but my wife wants to see it now so I might tune in again.

Agree with all that has been said. Found out about The Wire after reading an article written in The Observer (I think) by Ian McEwan (I think) who basically said it was a work of pure genius, so watched season 5 on FX and then watched the whole lot on beeb 2. Absolutely brilliant. Cant believe it took so long for it to be shown on mainstream tv here in the UK- and then at 11.20 each night on BBC2!

They are a very different kettle of fish. It's a bit like choosing between football and cricket, you love them both but for different reasons. I'm still undecided.

I don't think there are any bad characters, they are all so well written that they all seem to serve their purpose. I also love the fact that not one character is focused on too much.
