The Wembley pitch

Yes, it's shite and not good enough for a national stadium, but this was a pleasing comment from Harry Redknapp:

'The pitch is a disgrace, a disgrace,' he stormed.

'I won't use the pitch as a excuse because it was the same for both teams, but for any professional team to have to play football on that is farcical.

'How can you play on a pitch you can't stand up on?

'You have to spend the whole time making sure you don't fall over. That can't be right can it? It's farcical.'

Redknapp was also critical of the officials' decision to rule out Peter Crouch's leveller in the first half of extra time.

Isn't it funny how it's never the fault of this miracle worker? He's had MILLIONS to spend since taking over, hasn't he, and as ever, Spurs are MILES off the pace of the two successful London clubs.

The problem is he is correct on both counts and just to add TV showed that it was a perfectly good tackle by Palacios that the clown of a ref gave a penalty for. If the same incidents had happened against BHA this board would be in uproar.

To be fair the pitch was rubbish, and isn't suitable to be in the country's flagship stadium. Look at the Millenium stadium - that is a lot better and has rugby played on it too. In fact, even Twickenham has a better pitch than Wembley. However, yesterday Portsmouth had an equally bad pitch to play on.

With the disallowed goal, I thought it was a pedantic decision, but I can see why it wasn't given. The Spurs player was impeeding James and didn't win the ball. Had he managed to get his head on the ball the goal would have been perfectly allowable. It was a very, very pedantic decision by the referee, nevertheless, I can understand his logic.

For me, Tottenham were tactically outthought by a team that wanted to win the game more.

He certainly is. But that's unfortunate for Spurs fans, because both points mask the fact that his multi million pound team couldn't beat a relegation bound tin-pot team so penniless that nobody could say for sure who the subs were because of bonus payments they might trigger.

They still had a team out who they hadnt paid for that cost millions.

Shouldnt matter as we should of beat them, this is the worst result for Spurs in 10 years.

All the comments that Harry gave are valid.

1. Dawson slipped on the pitch for the first goal.
2. James was not fouled and Crouch's goal should have counted.
3. Palacios got the ball and it shouldn't have been a penalty.

Spurs didn't deserve to win or play well enough to win but Pompey were lucky with their decisions and that Dawson was on the ground

He may as well not stop short and put the boot into the Spurs fans. They were truley a disgrace to their club. I remember a few verses of oh when the spurs , apart from that they my as well of all been gagged.

And this isn't because Pompey were noisy either as ITV like to constantly gush

Correct. While Spurs could've done more to win, the pitch was a MASSIVE factor.

I thought Redknapp was pretty generous afterwards, considering the disgraceful decisions.

He said correctly (can you imagine Fergie saying this) that the 2nd goal 'non-penalty' was irrelevant as they were already losing and time was up, and didn't make anywhere near as much of the disallowed goal as others would have. He knew his strikers were to blame, and said so.

As for the comments about the pitch, it's an honest answer to a straight question, and he's taken the trouble to point out it was the same for both. I don't think the bloke can do any more apart from staying mute.

True, although when did you ever see Harry take the blame himself for anything at all? It's always someone else's fault (apart from when his teams win, when of course the plaudits are all his).

I'm not sure that the opitch was all the problem. Boots today now seem to have "blades" rather than "studs". The Blades cut into the ground and don't give you any vertical support if you want to quickly change direction. They act like an ice skate/knife blade, rather than a round stud. Useless if you want to keep your balance whilst quickly changing direction

i thought thats was the point behind the fancy boots, to allow quicker change of direction. look at the overall shape of the pattern rather than the individual studs, its round. the old stud pattern had you fixed to the spot.

Thats all well and good. But its the turf underneath the "blades" which isn't holding together and allowing the change of direction.

I was there yesterday, bang on the halfway line, and the Spurs fans were indeed, pathetic. Didn't make a sound until extra time, and even then, barely.

They were, however, much more NORMAL looking, then their inbred, tatooed, earring wearing, fat, Portsmouth counterparts.

Re the pitch - Wembley is supposed to be hosting the 2011 Champions League final. That could prove to be a total embarrassment if its still in this kind of state.

No doubt in additional to the FA Cup semi's, the FA Cup Final and the Playoff Finals, they'll also throw in an NFL match and a Monster Truck rally in the weeks leading up to it. Accident WAITING to happen.
