Just in case anyones interested (just got this e-mail)

“El Rey” - the first new long player in over three years from The Wedding
Present will be released on 19 May 2008.

The album, the follow-up to the critically acclaimed “Take Fountain”, was
recorded in Chicago by Steve Albini and comes with a bonus CD EP of covers,
featuring versions of Take That’s “Back For Good”, Wreckless Eric’s “Whole Wide
World” and The Beach Boys’ “Caroline No”.

The Wedding Present returned from an eight year hiatus in 2004 with the release
of “Take Fountain”. This long awaited LP brought them back into the spotlight
with all the style and sophistication associated with a legendary group, but
fans were also pleased to see the band had lost none of the growling angst with
which they had burst onto the scene with their 1985 debut, “George Best”.

The energy has been turned up even further for the new album, “El Rey”, The
Wedding Present’s first collaboration with the legendary Albini since the
renowned “Seamonsters” in 1991.

Written while David Gedge was living in Los Angeles, “El Rey” burns with West
Coast sunlight; Hollywood seen through the eyes of a gritty Northerner.

Speaking about “El Rey” in Mojo magazine recently Gedge said: “I’ve been living
in West Hollywood for the last year or so, and while I’m not going to claim that
this is my ‘L.A.’ album, there are some references. I suppose the themes are
lust, jealousy, betrayal, regret, obsession, super-heros? the usual. We chose
to record with Steve this time because the new songs were sounding very
guitarry and quite dark. It’s been good. As you’d imagine, really; Albini knows
his stuff”.

The band will be performing a full set at the El Rey Album Launch Party at
Brighton Corn Exchange on Friday 30 May 2008.

They asked my mate to be their drummer just before they released their last album.

He DRUMMED with them on the John Peel radio tribute show but turned down their offer.

Doh.

Fantastic stuff. Last saw Gedge when he was with Cinerama. This is a must-see.

I sometimes have a debate with people about who would win in a fight between Dave Gedge and Henry Rollins. Yeah, sure Rollins has the bulk and height but Gedge is a chippy bloke from Leeds with small bloke syndrome. He gets really angry. And you can bet he'd go tooled up.

Gedge would win. No question.

Brassneck! I just decided I don't like you anymore!

Interestingly enough one of their older drummers is an Albion fan whom I know. When I worked for the Inland Revenue in Worthing about 8 years ago he worked for the IT contractors and once a week we went over to Durrington Leisure Centre to play football on the astro-turf.

Now as time moves on we are actually colleagues as we now work for the same company, although I am not sure he knows that!!

Albion & England forever.

Hi Thimble Keegan,

That bloke from the Inland revenue was me actually. I drummed for TWP in the late 80s (George Best/Tommy period), and am still an Albion fan - season ticket an' all...

I can also exclusively reveal that Mr. Gedge now lives in Hove... (though unfortunately doesn't have such good taste in football...)

Can you give me a jog as to which member of the mighty Chicken Kiev FC you were?

I was Kev with the shaven head, although the hair is a lot different now!!!

Anyway, I have added you as a contact on my Fujitsu messenger.

He certainly does, my cousin ordered some merchandise off the TWP website and was slightly surprised to find Dave Gedge on his Portslade doorstep to deliver it in person. As far as I know he didn't refund the p+p!

Looking forward to friday night.

For some reason that has caused me to literally roll around in fits of laughter!

Would have been even funnier had your cousin asked Mr Gedge for a refund on his p+p, after offering him a cup of tea and slice of cake first, of course! :lolol:
