The UK's biggest Tourist Rip offs

A couple of bad ones. Dover Castle is something like £16 I believe. It's probably a pretty interesting place but if you compare it to other English Heritage prices you realise they are properly fleecing it (though I suppose it shouldn't count of as much of a rip-off when they're owned by charitable institutions).

Then, whilst in Arundel a few weeks ago we thought the castle might be interesting, before realising it cost £18.50 per adult!!!!!

Madame Tussauds is unbeatable for rip-off though.

Nothing in this county can match Venice as the rip off centre of the universe.

I'm not going to go back again until they have finished building it.

Following on from the natural History museum thread and the metion of the price to get in Madame Tussards. What is the biggest tourist rip off in your opinion in the UK?

For me although not that expensive about £8 each are these big wheel/Eye things unless it's in London where it is worth going on albeit more expensive.

You would think i'd learn went on the one in York not much to see plus over pretty quick ( you might as well go up to the top of the Minster) But i also decided to go on teh Manchester one and that was crap as well as it hardly clears the Arndale centre. Haven't been on the Brighton one but i can imagine that is pretty crap. Not good value for money at all.

The cost of train travel, especially when compared with the awful quality of service! ffs!!

Went with the family to the Isle of Wight on Sunday. Went to the needles where they were selling bottles of sand for £5 each. Could not believe it, what a rip off.....bought two bottles:facepalm:

We went on a medieval re-enactment day.
I think (I didn't pay) that was very expensive but also a bloody good day, so a little swings and roundabouts, there.

Legoland.
You think you have a bargain at c. £130 for a family, with a special discount, but turns out everyone else has it too.
About 10 major things to go on, but each has a queue of 45 to 90 minutes, meaning you only end up doing 2 or 3 a best.
With snacks and other bits, they stitch you up for the best part of £200.
And 10,000's suckers keeping turing up.

Centreparcs all in (after totting up all the card slips after a stay), is very expensive.
Added to the cost of a lodge and in effect inclusive amazing pool .

But it's a very safe and unpolluted enviroment with no cars.
Just wish it was alot cheaper.

With pre-school kids, the term-time weeks are much much cheaper.

As a one off with the kids, yes. Get a year pass and you're ok. Was always worth the initial outlay. Sort of miss it now the kids are older. Especially the decibel counter in the yellow phone box and the hours standing waiting for the beaver to appear.
The kids and I always enjoyed the copulating wallabies.

But that was in the days when a Drusilla's annual family pass was a lot cheaper than it is now.
