I grant you that it doesn't happen very often and it's rare on the radio. But I know for a fact that Albion players have long felt dispirited by the moaners at Withdean. Individual comments shouted out from the South Stand do get heard clearly on the pitch and it's not the easiest thing for a young player to ignore.

Dan Harding used to find that it seriously affected his concentration.

How do I know? He told me so.

Are we breeding an over sensative bunch of players here?
Think back to the Millwall game and their fans certainly let the players know what they thought of their first half performance at half time. What happened, they came out in the second half and put some effort in and won the game. Another really nasty attack on individual players came from the West Ham fans at the end of the game at Withdean, with some really pointed and nasty comments to individual players. So much so that some of there players got involved in a slanging match with fans as they went off.
Every fans site I go on is full of fans slagging individual players or managers.
If they dont want to hear it dont listen to the radio or dont read fans sites, simple!! But if players are judged to be not performing on the pitch then fans have let them know their feelings as long as I have watched the game.

No. But we are more dependent than most clubs on players who have recently come out of the youth squad, who must themselves be uncertain about whether they are going to cut the mustard at Championship level. Telling them that they are rubbish doesn't help us win matches.

I understand what your saying LB but to be honest I have not realy heared a lot of slagging at the ground of younger players.
I think Harding was an exception because of his well known attitude to getting away from the club.
In my time of watching the Albion I have seen some players turned to jelly by the fans, Georgie Waites, Tony Nicholas and Teddy Maybank to name three. They all go back some time so it does show it has always happened.
And just look what the fans of West Ham did to Zamora last season both at the ground and on the fans site. But he has raised his game now and will probably end up a better player for it.

I concur.

For once, I totally agree with you.
