I don't think you'll find the Evening Star has been refurbished. Ever.

Wasn't it shut earlier this year or possibly sometime last year (my memory is hazy) for "refurbishment" which seemed to consist solely of making the pillar in the middle marginally smaller?

Thats what I though but there is not another pub with the name Star around there is there?

Can't think of one.

Let me see - 'near' Brighton Station...

Evening Star
Grand Central / Nightingale
Railway Bell
Caxton
Sussex Yeoman
Battle of Trafalgar
Queen's Head
Prince Albert
Belle Vue

The only other one I can think of is the Earth & Stars at the top of Church Street.

opposite the sex shop taboo ?

was shut the other week and looked gutted inside so assumed was being done up. Since the smoking ban the carpet has smelt disgusting. Assumed it was because of this.
Good pre match pub in my opinion , cheap beer , seat outside , plenty of albion , near station....what more do you want ?

However it was shut for a 'refurb' the day of the Leeds game, just like it has been shut for 'refurbs' when Millwall, Cardiff, Pompey etc have been the visiting teams here in the past.

Oh, I see!

dunno I'm lost
It's a good point. I went into the Evening Star last week for a beer or five at about 6 o'clock. It STANK of stale office workers. A can of deodorant wouldn't have gone amiss in there.

I find sales assistants worse :glare:

Problem is if you start spraying acan of deodarant about people i e the beer buffs, will think the beer should smell like that.
