Bloody hell...might as well recall Ran Harley back from MK Dons already, if Dicker is given games!
Gary Dicker is a League One midfielder at best. Matt Sparrow should be on the bench before Dicker.

At 2-0 today Ipswich were starting to press and I was getting quite nervous they were going to peg one back. Dicker came on and played well, helped steady the ship, and what a BRILLIANT cross to Bridge for his goal.

He lumped it up in the air, across the pitch, and backwards about 20 yards...during the time it was in the air everyone around me was moaning, as yes it looked like a ridiculous pass to make...but when it landed it was in JUST the right place...what a visionary.

Glad he is back with a solid performance...well done Gary Dicker.

As shown today, useful player to come on when you're already controlling a game, but not someone who will necessarily get you into the two goal lead we had before he came on. Squad player but no more for me.

I think the OP had a good point here. GD was on fire earlier on this season...the best I'd seen him play since joining us. I was as surprised as anyone... He was outstanding v Millwall away.

Told you all. Just before Dicker came on Ipswich started to press us and looked like they might get back into the game. Dicker came on and knocked the ball about a bit more and got us getting the ball forward much quicker (like we did at the start) and we got the 3rd and only looked like scoring another and not condeding. We are a MUCH better side with Gary Dicker.

You're seriously comparing Harley to Dicker? Dicker lacks a yard of pace but does have an eye for a pass and does make our midfield tick nicely. Harley is one of the laziest bottlers of a player I have ever seen in a Brighton shirt.

Harley is League One at best, we are a often a better team when Dicker is in it.

Both this season and last season Dicker's time away due to injury coincided with our winter dip in form. I really think that now is the time to play him in the midfield. He links up well with Bridcutt, and can unlock defences with some good passes. He is always involved with set pieces (not always good I admit) and although he does give the ball away more often than he should, KNOWS the way Poyet wants us to play. Gary is one of the players that has been with us the longest now and Poyet clearly trusts him. He's also used to playing in a lopsided 4 man midfield (with one winger) should Gus actually want to play 2 proper strikers.

I think Dicker is the missing link that we need between our very defensive central midfield and the striker/strikers...would contribute more going forward than Hammond/Crofts/Lopez etc. Of course, he has his critics for being a bit lightweight, and won't be banging in the goals...but I really believe Dicker is a player who can get us flowing again.

I'd have him in a midfield three with Bridcutt and one of Hammond for Ipswich. Really don't agree with people listing him as "deadwood" and a player to get rid of!

Agree. Dicker is one of the few people at this club who can pick a pass in the often frustrating to and fro-ing that goes on in midfield under the guise of ball retention while we look desparately for an opening

Could have brought my Mum on yesterday and she would have impressed too against that lot. Can only wonder at how they had won 5 from 7

Good squad player. Can do a job. Not consistently good enough to be first choice week in week out if we have aspirations of being top 6

The solution is VICENTE

This.

Dicker is a poor man's version.

Dicker was a key part of CM's destroyed by others e.g. CP Sept 2011.

At Championship level, his lack of: pace, power, and ability to win 50:50s is the clincher.

Vicente gets away with it because his vision, touch, and passing is a couple of levels above Dicker's.

It was a good substitution. He helped steady the midfield and we started to look up more when defending. But he's not the answer for me. Handy sub to change the pattern of play. Probably part of the elusive Plan B.

Yep - I'd stick with Dicker. Thought he was poor last year but that he started this season much better and was very unlucky to get dropped following the influx on new signings in Sept. I'd have him over Crofts and think that with Bridders sitting in front of the defence, Dicker will add some creativity to Hammond's muscle in the centre of the park.
