Does anyone remember the Regent Ballroom in Queens Road on a Thursday night around 1965? The sprung dance floor, Motown, King Jerry. Also the pub just up the road the William Tell? music - Rod Stewart - Maggie May, Redbone - Witch Queen of New Orleans..........heaven, what a great period in time.:guitar:

Of course. Very few of us left now though. Most just think it's a place to buy shampoo.

Yes the Big Apple.

Whatched loads of top named bands of the day for only 50p a throw, or a little more.

The wonders of rampant inflation.

Same here. The biggest one of them all was The Stones on 10th March 1971, as part of the "Sticky fingers" tour. God only knows how many times Status Quo were the support act, although not on that occasion, as it was The Groundhogs.

Remember it well. There would often be announcements telling us to stop jumping up and down as the people in the cinema underneath couldn't hear the film.
That floor was amazing!

In the shadow of Seaford Head
The Regent ballroom was a great place. Syd Dean (followed by Harry Leader) and his orchestra - Jill Day and Bobby Sansom the singers - wonderful days. The 50's in case any of you young un's think it was only about visiting pop groups.

And The Kinks?

Who mimed. Never been more disillusioned than I was that night.

We were right near the front of the stage and they used to be one of my favourites and just couldn't believe it when they weren't singing live, everyone else sang live that night, even poor old Billy J Kramer who didn't have the best voice but at least he tried.

I remember that! Queued all night for tickets but can't remember where from. Anyone know?

Also saw T Rex there. Great times.

I was a regular between 1959-61 on a Thursday evening when we danced(jived) to pop records. The last record was always "It's Late" by Ricky Nelson and it was only 10pm! How times have changed. It cost half a crown(12.5p) entrance fee and started about 7pm. Everyone dressed very smart, Italien style suits and always a tie for the men(boys) and the girls looked stunning. Everyone was so polite and never had a dance request refused. Afterwards would have fish & chips then a carton of milk and finally a mars bar before arriving home. I know its hard to imagine vending machines outside at night that actually worked, am I dreaming, no its true.

Great to see photos - In 1965 I remember Syd Dean doing a session then the DJ coming on....anyone remember his name? Also remember seeing a group called the 'Remo Four' play there and the drummer doing a fantastic solo.
