The Railway Children at Waterloo Station

Has anyone been to see this with their family? Thinking of going to see it at half term but it is quite expensive (but then I guess all London Theatre stuff is).

Views, opinions, ribald comments and gratuitous mentions of Jenny Agutter are invited.

A colleague at work went and said it really was very good and well worth the money.

I think the actual steam train is only involved in about three scenes.

I LOVE the film and the book so should really go and see this. I need to convince my children and/or wife though!!

Went and saw it a couple of months ago and its really good.
The 'stage' is in the middle and people sit on either side, I went for the cheap tickets and was in row K so your not that far back for £20.
As mentioned the train itself isn't in it much, but apparently its the same one thats in the Harry Potter films and the caridge from the original film. We're going to look into visiting the place were the film was recorded whist taking in the Leeds away game in Febuary.

I saw this last month it was really good.

As for expensive I would say not at all, we went for the £20 seats and if we went again would go for the same, it isn't a big auditorium and being at the side/back made no difference to enjoyment of the performance.

Yes she was indeed, a lot of it was filmed at the bluebell railway.

...and Rab C Nesbitt played Perks the porter with Dickie Attenborough as the old man. Amazed it took so long to get the first Agutter mention, thanks for your comments fellow NSC'ers I am now wavering even more toward going.

for those that went, what age group would you pitch this at? I do like the idea of taking the kids to show events in London, my eldest has done the Lion King and as a family we went to see the Olivier award winning* In the Night Garden Live at the 02 last year and they both like things such as the Ice Show at the Brighton Centre.

Mine were 9 and 7 which was perfect. I would probably not bother taking a child younger than 6 years old, personally.

We saw it at Stratford and it is sensationally good. Tim Minchin's words and music are as fantastic as you'd expect them to be.

Well, everyone ignored me last time but I'll say it again - Matilda the Musical is superb - saw a preview the other day in London and aside from the acoustics not being as good as at Stratford it is still excellent and would appeal to anyone from 9 to 90. Its very funny and is brilliantly performed - particularly by the kids and by Bernie Carvell who plays the headmistress Miss Trunchbull.

It will become the hottest of hot tickets after its press night on 24th November so I'd strongly recommend booking before then.
