One of our players cleared the ball out of play and it hit the front of the roof of the stand smacking one of the large letters which fell on to the pitch perhaps that's the damage he was on about.

I always found it hard to decide whether to go through the "gold", "silver" or "bronze" turnstile - they were all equally unappetising. Like the town.

We went to a little pub in a terrace about 15 to 20 minutes walk from the ground thinking we would have a drink in a peaceful pub to find it full of Albion fans chatting and eating and a great little beer garden so we adopted it. They were very upset when we left. Made friends with some locals and other Albion Fans. I see going to Gillingham is part of history in our long Journey to the Amex. The pub made more money from the Brighton fans than Gillingham fans. But thank you Dick for bringing us back home it was fun going to Gillingham but my wife did not understand that a home game took all day on a Saturday. Grow up Gillingham fans and admit that your club benefited from the Albion sharing your ground.

This. The mood at that time was a sad one, we were very down and nearly out and certainly the small numbers at Gillingham were looking for hope, not trouble or vandalism!

Unpalatable as it may sound, but without the option to play at Priestfield, where exactly could we have played? Regardless of cost Portsmouth said no, Crawley COUNCIL said no, Millwall said no. We were in a fix.

Micheal Knghton offered to let us play where he was Chairman at the time I thought. Although that was Carlisle.

We wanted to get in and get out of the utter shithole, straight after the Final Whistle. We paid for mostly everything in that dump, including their Main Stand. Being a Ball-boy there for the majority of the years we were there, wasn't fun at all.

Apologies for the Crawley thing...didnt read your post properly. Speaking to a chap at work who works for the Met, it was them only who objected...Millwall saw it as a cash cow!

This. Used to sit on side opposite the main stand from where you had a good view of all the albion fans each game. Never saw any trouble or vandalism at all. Also used to drink in the Gills supporters club bar under the main stand which they kindly opened for us before the game. Never any trouble, in fact a very amiable atmosphere was always prevalent.

This blokes comments couldn't be further from the truth. They got a very good deal from us, we were well behaved tenants. As the for the area, I once lived in Sittingbourne, the whole place is a cesspit. Truly one of the most depressing places on earth. No wonder your mates unhappy.
