The Pope is coming!

He is visiting as part of the Vatican City's Football team-they're like Monaco, a city state that play in another country, they play in Lega Pro Prima Division, and he is part of their tour of england as the no. 1 goalkeeper, and i am the no.2 keeper

its true, wikipedia says so.....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lega_Pro_Prima_Divisione_2009E2%80%9310

Correct me if I am wrong but this old gent is:

1) An ex member of the Hitler Youth?
2) Has strong homophobic views and is openly vocal with these views?
3) The Head of an organisation that institutionally discriminates against gay rights etc?
4) Has strong Islamophobic views and is openly vocal with these views?
5) the Head of an organisation which has been involved 'institutionally' in the abuse of children and has actively sought to cover up such abuse when it has happened around the world.
6) Unapologetic about point 5 probably for legal reasons.............such is his commitment to repentance.
7) Heads an organisation that is worth literally billions (see also point 6) in art property, stocks, shares and has its own bank, yet remains comfortable to see his 'lambs' live in abject poverty around the globe...............parable with the camel and eye of a needle springs to mind.
8) Makes matters worse for those in 7) by letting them f*** themselves into greater poverty, misery and disease by not sanctioning contraception.

Sounds a right 21st century guy................if the UK are not allowing US shock jocks and democratically elected Dutch politicians who we disagree with, who the f*** decided to let this mad c*nt in the country?

Personally I would chuck him in the oven................no offence like...............I am ex-Newman.

I bet it is so he can take in some of the top class netbusting action of the EPL.

:jester:

Actually, I hear the pope used to be a goalie in his youth.

I think that was the last guy. This one spent most of his time marching around Nuremburg and Berlin with his other mates in the Hitler Youth.

We should get him to Withdean - he'll feel quite at home with our 'Seagulls' shouts (especially if his hearing aid is on the blink). Who knows, he might even join in!

I can't see anything wrong with that, Cunning Fergus. When I say that, I mean your conclusion as opposed to his attributes and past activities.

The new 'Seven Deadly Sins' neglected to include Paedophilia - just frowned upon, perhaps?

Whatever happens I will be very disappointed if the Cardinal is not by his side.

1. Yes, it would have taken an incredibly brave teenager not to have been.
2. Catholic teaching may be backward (in my opinion) regarding homosexuality, but is very anti-homphobic
3. Wouldn't necessarily argue with that
4. Doesn't at all. Was misquoted and has done a lot since then to make amends for said mistake.
5. Certain individuals within the church have taken part in such horrendous activities. I would say its wrong to label this with the church as an organisation - could easily throw such a generalising label at scouts, Church of England, schools etc...
6. Not true (not that it makes it better)
7. I agree in principle with you, but don't underestimate the work the Catholic church does against poverty.
8. Doesn't sanction contraception, but doesn't sanction sex at all if there is risk of infection. If you are going to break one rule, why not both?

And of course saying art is 'worth millions' completely misses the point of the art in the first place. It was not commissioned to be sold on, it was mostly commissioned to enhance worship. Saying it is 'worth millions' is to treat worship as a commodity, which it is not. It just happens that it is so well done that people are prepared to pay millions for some of it. Treating it as being worth millions would be putting mammon ahead of God by reducing a worship aid into merely a material thing.

A lot of the wealth also comes from property values, but in truth many of the properties are actually a day-to-day liability if you think of them in monetary terms, due to exorbitant heating and maintenance costs, etc.

Still, nice to see another thread where the bigots are happy to trot out all the negatives without acknowledging any of the positives.

Not that I'm a Catholic or anything. But fair's fair.

The real issue is:

he's the head of a church, not a country - so how come he gets a state visit?

How does one get to become a pope anyway?
Can I just apply, and send me CV and everything?

I think you become a bishop in Rome and when one dies anouther one gets voted in. Am i correct in think the Pope is suposed to be the reicarnation of St. Peter? Or somthing similer.
