He's such a warm and friendly looking guy, I'm surprised he'd make such antagonising comments...

Oh dear. Not the wisest thing to say but no doubt it will see the standard massive over-reaction from those sweet little 12th century misogynists. It's times like this when I can only echo the words of the great liberator of Albania - Enver Hoxha: "The world will never be free until the last mullah is strangled with the entrails of the last priest." - And I speak as a church-going Anglican!

I guess he was paraphrasing Diderot's "Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest."?

Anyway, to hold it against the pope for being conservative and right-wing is to hold it against water for being wet.

Thye didn't even want to elect a German Pope, you know.

He just got his towel over the balcony first.

Hopefully, all religion will perish in the near future and we can hate each other daily minus filling tenet.

Religion is the reason that we war in this world.

Personally I cant stand religion causes tension and one day it will ruin our planet.

I say forget about religion and spread the wealth in this world so poor people can eat, drink and get decent health care.

I think greed also causes a few problems. Religion often just gives greedy men the chance to make themselves feel vindicated for their actions. Or at least excuse them.

No, he wasn't, that would have been a rather different story altogether...he was in the Hitler Youth, which in Germany in 1936 showed about as much political conviction as is shown by joining the boy scouts. His father was a keen anti-Nazi (but staunch Catholic) and he had a cousin with Downs syndrome killed by the Nazis for being disabled. He seems capable of being an intolerant arsehole without having had much help from the Nazis too.

I particularly liked the line about 'not intending to cause any offence to Muslims'.

Yeah, right. World's chippiest religion, quote some bloke saying they're evil. Bound to pass off without incident.

I think Prince Philip should convert and become the next Pope. I'm fed up with this half hearted insulting of non-white non-christians. Lets get a real xenophobe in there.

Enver Hoxha wasn't even IN the Diddymen! I think you're confusing him with Ken Dodda!

(But, yes, probably, although I would never of course accept such revisionist heresy against the Great Father of the Albanian people.)

NO....human beings using religion as an excuse is the main reason for wars in this world.

If you took religion away, men would fight about the colour of your skin, shape of your face, land that they think should be theirs, in fact a miriad of things.

What people have to realise is that to the eyes of the "Christian church" Islam is the Great Heretic and to purify the world of heretics, in the middle ages people were put to death. This is now happening in reverse if you listen to Al Queda Deputy Leader who calls for all non - believers to be killed.

It is not religion that is the problem. It is the established churches. If everybody went about their lives trying to live following the same principles as the God they follow, within the laws of the society where they choose to live, the world would be a better place.

you seem to be somewhat contradicory there, dies, stating that it is not religion that causes conflict but then blaming islamic aggression on religious doctrine.

And how many people would you guess get to look at the speeches before they are given. I'd say a lot. It looks intentional to me.
