The game the previous season played in August was my first....irrelevant i know..but just saying

I followed the crowd who said that a game v Torquay at the Goldstone had be cancelled due to snow. We were nearly at the ground but returned to Hove and then to Burgess Hill only to find that the game was played and finished 2 : 2. This was c 1968.

I'm pretty sure that was mainly because the rail company had put it on the A boards at Hove station and the porters were telling everyone the same thing.

I know of someone who shall remain nameless who turned up in Brighton for the Cardiff game a couple of years back and wondered why the pubs seemed so quiet pre match. Probably because the game was being played in Cardiff that Tuesday night.

My 13th birthday. I was going to go to the game as a birthday treat but was told that it had been called off, I stayed at home instead and missed a cracking game.

Think I can beat all these! I once drove with my brother all the way to Swansea for a midweek cup tie only for it to slowly dawn on us as we approached the old Vetch Field that the match was probably not on. It was a dreadful journey there in the pissing down rain and the game had been called off hours earlier! Mobile phones were not common and there was no internet etc plus the radio in my car was broken. We turned straight back and in all it was a 12 hour round trip for nothing!

Tony Towner's Fridge and I did the same thing. We got all the way to Eastville in the pouring rain to discover the game had been called off about an hour earlier. That was a long drive back.

And I've also missed a game by getting the kick-off time wrong. I was about to set off from my old man's to watch us play Pompey about 20-odd years ago when I heard on the radio that the second half was under way. I'd come back from London for the game too #twats

About 4 or 5 years ago us Brighton fans here in Sydney met up on a Saturday at midnight at The Star Casino's Sports Bar to watch the Albion up against Bournemouth "live" on the massive screen.
One guy got his timezone & dates completely mixed up and turned up a day late on the Sunday night . Phoned one of us up to ask where the bloody hell we were !!!!
Was all dressed up for the occasion too, looking very resplendent in his replica Albion shirt...
On any subsequent meet-up he has NEVER been allowed to forget this fact !

I remember that day, we used to meet in the Cliftonville in those days, I recall someone had written that the game was postponed on a board outside Hove Station.

As I remember, early arrivers at the ground were told by stewards that the game was off. They made their way home and those that went via Hove station informed staff that the game was off and boards were written up. How this mis-information got out I don't know but lots of us missed an entertaining game played on a carpet of snow.
A mate and myself went into Brighton, once we found it was off ( unofficially ) and didn't get back to Mid-Sussex until 6.00-6.30. My father asked if we had enjoyed the game. We replied..." No...it was called off due to snow " To which my father replied..." Funny, I've just heard the result. It was a 2-2 draw " Cue...two bewildered 14 year olds.

Was in the navy and hitchhiked up to Tottenham to see Spurs play Man U in the Europeon cup,got there with my mate when a London pea souper descended and the game was called off. Took us all night to get back,just made it...I was on guard duty that morning...a physical sleepwalking wreck for the rest of the day.

Not sure if anyone can beat the 400 Bilbao fans who flew to Budapest to watch their team in the Europa final, only to find out on landing that they should have been in Bucharest.

More than once I drove down from Reigate to the Goldstone only to be told the match is off due to frost, flood, plague of locusts or whatever.
Horrible pissed off feeling!

I'll raise you an overnight stay in Newcastle and the 09.30 train home after the match was cancelled due to snow.

I'll raise you even more! If anyone remembers the dreadful Halifax (away) debacle of 2001. My daughter really fancied going to the game. So in my wisdom, I took one day's holiday (I had to work on Saturday) and because my motor was in a dodgy state I booked a hire car for the weekend.

It tonked it down on the Friday night and they played a Rugby League game that evening at the Shay. So come Saturday morning, at 8.00 am, checked Ceefax (remember that!) to find the Albion match was still on. Off we went and 200+ miles later arrived in deepest Halifax to find the rugby posts still in situ - and guess what!

That weekend cost me fortune and as someone has already mentioned, thank Gawd we've now got decent mobile phones and t'internet.

I sent my mate a text asking him if he was going straight to the ground as he didn't turn up at the pub. "No I'll see you in the Star" says he.

I replied "we're on the train, you do know it's a 12.15 ko?" F***, no I didn't".

He made it for the 2nd half. Big divvy!
