The Passion

1. Why did Jesus allow himself to be caught?
2. What would have been the result if he had escaped the authorities?

Apparently there are more gospels, in addition to the usual four (Matty, Marko, Lukey and Johnny)...in some of them Jesus didn't die but got off with Mary Magdalene, had a family and lived to a ripe old age...hence there are people who claim, possibly with good reason, to be descended from him. I guess there is already enough contradiction in the four published gospels, add a few more into the mix and it would all get far too confusing.

That was not the point of the excercise.

the scriptures tell us that Christ was born to die and suffer the sins of man on the cross that we all, who believe in him would live for ever. Therefore there was no reason for Him not to be caught. It was wrtten, therefore it had to be.

I am not a particularily religion sperson, however I do respect people who hold strong views, as long as it does not involve foisting their views on other people or killing people in thhe name of any God.

I thought the Passion was extremely well acted.

I also do not hold with people who think it is big and clever to rubbish something that people live their live sbelieving. After all, no one, has ever come back to tell the tale ( or only Jesus if you believe in that)

In turn allowing Dan Brown to make potloads of cash from writing The Da Vinci Code (not that he actually came up with the theory by any means, just brought it to the attention of the masses, if you like).

There are other gospels that the meetings of Nicea did not take into account.

There is purportedly a Gospel according to Mary Magdelene. This maybe true, there are many arguments for and against.

It does make good fiction though

I saw parts 3 and 4 and thought it was a noble effort by a bunch of brits putting their take on the matter but Nesbitt playing a Roman with a broad Northern Irish accent did not past muster for me. the actor who played Jesus was good.

Howver the definative telling of the last days of Jesus Christ is Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ a very good and powerful film , very authentic , well acted and intensely moving.

I was surprised how little the elders in my family actually knew about the Passion.

My Dad even said, why did they ruin the story by bringing him back, that would never have happened!!:nono:. Oh dear.

That has to be a joke, please tell me, its a joke.

A Bishop this Easter offered to clean peoples shoes in the street. No one had a clue it was recognising the washing of the disciples feet.

1. Because he knew what was going to happen and he sacraficed himself to save the sins of the world (god were you not listening!) And also he knew he was going to rise again. That is all.:bigwave:

Its a very powerful film imo. Bit out of order I agree putting on a film about the last days of Christ at Easter time :jester:

By law, I think it should be either a Carry On film or a Police Academy film.

In the absence of those, then either Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins or something from the James Bond series. Anything else on a Bank Holiday is simply unacceptable.

Will watch it though, whilst an atheist, I still want to understand the power behind religion and in this case Jesus of N.

I personally thought the Passion compelling. Not staid or fussy unlike the CoE.

If they want to pick up more punters they are going to have to change their presentation.

I thought occured to me earlier, who does now provide the more authority in today's society. We have a negative opionion of our Politicians, people like Blair has shown he was after financial gain. The Church appears out of touch, appealing to a dying audience and our so called establishment is up its own arse.

Two of those three, I have no care time for but C21st Britain.............................needs more direction, more morality, a society to be redeveloped again.

Nice thing in our household yesterday, my daughter aged four, wanted to know what was happening to Jesus, why had he died etc. Very moving for us, she was really sad. She had obviously only associated Jesus with being a baby before!

We (I ) explained thats what Easter is meant to be about - not just chocolate eggs. Christmas was when he was born.....................................

Bit of a coincidence if you ask me. Born at Xmas, died at Easter. Even the Premiership wouldn't fix the dates QUITE so blatantly ???

Question (this is something I'd genuinely like to know, not just a piss-take or anything):

Jesus, as I understand the story, was crucified on what we call Good Friday, correct? My question is why do we call it "Good" Friday, seeing as it doesn't seem like there was a whole lot of good involved in what happened to him?

there is no difinitive answer as most countries have different name for it, however, the most plausable seems to be that Good Friday relates to the day he died, and despite the evil of that day, God evoked the greatest good from it. But by good we do not mean happy or a time of celebration per se.
