The only thing that pissed me off yesterday was that minute's applause

Surely a minute's silence would have been far more dignified?

Apart from that I thought we did okay in the 2nd half. Dodgy referee, dodgy lino's, missed chances, broken dreams, it's what the Albion's all about innit?

Highlight of the day was the seagull flying past the family stand having the longest crap known to man or beast.

Right funny.

I've been drinking.

Agree, I get pissed off with this minutes applause trend. It's pandering to those in the crowd that show no respect for a minutes silence which I think is far more emotional. I don't partake in the applause whenever it happens and just show my respect in silence.

Not only that, it started after kick-off time. It was 3:05 by the time the game got under way.

How would I know? I don't frequent such establishments.

I thought you might have been worried the late kick off would affect your shopping or was your pre arranged, final whistle pulled ,Harvey's in danger of going flat!

I wondered why the applause rather than a minute's silence. Is it because we are such a disrespectful bunch of cnuts that we can't be trusted to observe a minute's silence?

Agree 100%...

The FL announced that a minute's applause would take place before ALL games in England.

We know that we can be trusted with these things. But the FL doesn't trust anyone to be sensible.

I disagree to be honest, but it depends on the context.

Robson had a long drawn out illness so it was hardly a shock when he eventually died.

Rather than everyone expected to be sombre and emotional, much better to thank the man for what he gave football.

In this case, the applause is 100% spot on.

At least when Archer dies we can have a minutes sustained booing.

The problem with the tradition silence is that not everybody observes it. A minutes applause might not be so dignified but it's also less embarrassing.

I have to disagree. I think minutes applauses are depressing, for what they represent. A minutes silence is still dignified even if a few mongs get tourettes 30 seconds in. The applause 'solution' is craven, but in truth as every year passes I get more confused and disappointed about how this country deals with public 'grief' or memorials.

If I'm absolutely honest, half the time I don't really give a toss about the person who's died. Bobby Robson included. But I'm happy to stand quietly so others who do care can show their respects/ pray/whatever during a minutes silence.

But I do get annoyed because I feel like I have to clap someone i don't care about, just because everyone else is. If I DON'T clap it looks like I hated him (I don't, I just don't care one way or the other)

Too many silences / rememberence things these days

The really important ones should be silences , no one would of disrespected a silence for Bobby Robson.

A silence for an opposing teams 94 year old former tea boy is a different matter

First time I have felt OK about the applause. I observed a minute's silence instead because that's how I prefer to show my respect and that doesn't spoil it for everyone else.
