Just a random thought ..... maybe for one season it might be Colwill? (just while we're bringing forward our Cucurella succession planning operation)

.....and just out of interest, why have we got another thread started more than half a day later on the same subject as this one? (yes, OK, apart from the obvious reason that somebody started one!)

This guy has played 127 minutes of football as a left back, and after 90 of those his team had conceded 5 goals.

He is not the Cucurella replacement.

I'm quite smitten with Destiny Udogie. I've only seen a highlights video but that's enough for me to want him rampaging up and down our currently bereft left flank.

I believe spurs are in for him, offering a loan back, but surely we could match their bid now we have a shed load of cash. Maybe he'd rather play in the premier league straight away? Wishful thinking perhaps but football is nothing without dreams.

I feel the same. But, as with Nunez, we may be lusting after one that’s a bit out of our league…

Destiny Udogie is my No1 aspirational target too. For a combination of reasons. His name is flair, he’s quick and skilful, no one is going to physically intimidate him. However, I too think he may be out of our league. Still must be worth a try.

I’m convinced that we’ll sign a Spanish left back. And it’s not just because we’ve just sold one and want a like-for-like replacement. Spain seem to specialise in producing left sided defenders and we’ve been linked to all of those on this list (except may be Grimaldo):

Angelino - RB Leipzig
Reguilón - Spurs
Grimaldo - Benfica
Moreno - Real Betis
Pedraza - Villarreal
Gómez - Anderlecht
Pedrosa - Espanyol

I’ve discounted us signing a Spanish veteran LBs such as Alonso or Alba as I’m sure we’d have grabbed Tag from Ajax if we were happy with signing an older player. The club clearly want someone early to mid 20’s.

So our new man will almost certainly be Spanish. Just a question of which one and when.

Don’t think out of our league…. Just missed the boat in that Spurs are further down the line and have an agreement with him and the club.

I’m sure if we’d made a move a couple of weeks ago we would be in with a shout.

And they all have release clauses in Spain so the clubs eyes can't light up when they hear of the Cucurella fee.

Grimaldo and Pedrosa are in the final year of their contracts too.

Perhaps the club should arrange a Getafe style friendly at the Amex to sweeten the deal.

And they also have no money. The La Liga sold 10% of its TV rights for the next 25 years just because so many clubs are on the brink of disaster. In the entire league only 35 signings has been registered so far. It is a great market for any buying English club atm and wouldn't surprise me if the next LB comes from the Spanish league.

Apparently they "even know in Hawaii" that we are going to be signing Javi Galán.

Mystery solved then.

I'll be ordering my Galan 3 shirt this afternoon.

He certainly passes the Potter versatility test:

But I’m not so sure we’d be after a player contracted to 2026 and turning 28 quite soon for what would probably be £15m+.

I must admit my view is that the "every signing has to be a young bargain who can be sold for profit" strategy needs tweeking.

Otherwise we'll get to the stage of 3-4-5 players pushing to leave each summer - which is far too much churn and replacement headache at once.

We already need to be seriously looking for Caicedo's replacement. Lol.

Sorry.

Youssef En-Nesyri is who I would splash my cash on (if I had any).

We were after him in 2019 and speculatively linked ever since. Still young enough to fit the 1/2 good seasons and get a good re-sale value, if he did well.
