Went to the Withdean on Saturday to see Varndean v Crowborough. First time I've been back and a totally depressing experience. Poor game, Crowborough marginally the better of two bang average teams reflected in the final score (1-0 to Crowborough). Withdean now in very poor state, the stand seating is on the verge of disintegrating in places and is rusty and covered in pigeon shit and the pitch looks patchy and undermaintained.
what a shame. Always hoped Albion women would play there

This is a very good question, possibly Worthing?

Worthing's main stand is certainly raised but I'm not sure it could STRICTLY be defined as two tiered

Yep, rather like you l had the dubious pleasure of revisiting our old stomping ground when Horsham YMCA played Old Varndeanians last October.

As you say it's so sad to see the old place crumbling away. Maintained by the council now, and evidently they aren't making a very good job of it at all.

The Varndenians chairman was bemoaning the state of the pitch, saying that the council were due to come down and mow it yesterday, but they didn't turn up, and the grass was too long.

I agree with your post but I can’t give it a “like”👍

Does Ringmer count? You can watch the game from the top floor as I recall?
You can watch the game from the top floor but I wouldn’t describe it as a two tier stand.
It’s really a bar that has a balcony for about 10 people, the game can also be watched through the bar window.
Downstairs has a tea/burger bar hatch, anyone standing in that area trying to watch the match seemed to be in the way of the queue for tea.

Quite sad what's happened to the old girl. Clearly the Albion were spending a lot of money on the upkeep of it as it's continually gone downhill since we left

Perhaps the Albion could take ownership of it, do it up and move the womens and u23's in there? Anyone know how much it's actually used for athletics events?

Every tuesday at the very least, as Varndeanians have to play their midweeks on a monday to not clash with Atheltics meets.

A big big big Three Points for Torquay last night at Boreham Wood. Really was last chance, its an uphill battle though, 6 points from Safety with 7 to play, I think it might be tool late and a trip to Worthing and Eastbourne Borough next season.

Well for those two games at least, it will mean less travelling time, and be easier on your wallet anyway Jack, should you decide to go that is.

Went to watch Mile Oak v Epsom and Ewell up at Mile Oak rec tonight. Finished 0-0 but really competitive, odd lot though Epsom, moaned and moaned and slipped in a nasty stamp on a Mile Oak player that the ref missed. At full time the Epsom number 3 walked over towards the 20 or so people behind the goal watching and was screaming “I’m the Daddy of Sussex” odd. I know they had some issues with Seaford last year, I think they think they’re too big for the league.

They really are a horrible club Epsom mate. We had issues up at there place earlier in the season. Hope they crash in the play offs. What a job Enzo has done this season at Mile oak though? 👏

He’s done a very good job keeping them up, has a very competitive team with the resources, hear they might be signing a new striker soon 😉
