I’ve actually met the owner/founder of Uncle Sam’s, he opened the first outlet in Montpelier Road, obviously they are franchises now but really nice guy, had my first ever cheeseburger in 1986 from Montpelier Road

Three brothers, I wonder if they are all still involved

people forget that until the late 80s/early 90s the number of McDonalds/Burger Kings etc in the UK were very limited. Grubbs and Uncle Sams in the mid to late 80s were your burger choices In Brighton. I used to go Wimpys in the 70s in East Street as a teenager for a treat. There wasn't anywhere else.
My first job as a sixteen yo was in Western Road in the offices near Waitrose, the older guys on my first day took me down Montpelier Road for Uncle Sam’s and it was genuinely my first ever take away burger, never looked back, i was even pleased when in the Navy and based in Portsmouth that there was an US’s in North End to keep me 😃

Is this a false memory or did there used to be a Wimpy on Western Road, somewhere near to the old Embassy cinema? I have some hazy memory of having a knickerbocker glory at such an establishment, but could easily have the location wrong.

What’s your go to burger TH? Mine for the last 30 years has been the ‘ All Star’ occasionally double 😳
A man of my own heart!I

have been going to a burger joint over here for 17 years and have always had the same burger except for once...during the Covid days they did not have any blue cheese so they substituted in something else which changed it to another burger.

I will overlook the name change, from The Jefferson to The Dr Zian, about 7 years ago. Apparently it was named after a customer....who the restaurant then fell out with.

There definitely was one on Western Road. Was more-or-less over the road from the old Debenhams shop where I worked for the summer in 1998 or so (when they were shutting down that shop because they'd just opened one in the then-new Churchill Square). Had a lot of burgers for lunch that summer.

Preston Circus had allsorts going on last night so ended up leaving town via Hollingbury. Looked like the one that was just along from what was the Snipe is no more. That must have been a recent-ish development as it was there last time I pootled along there.

I worked in Uncle Sam's in 1988/89. Amazed it seems to be thriving.
I always thought its home made chilli sauce was , and still is, the best burger chilli sauce i've ever had. Wonder if they still use the same recipe. Is it still up to scratch @Tom Hark Preston Park ?
My frugal go-to in the late 80s was a Veggie samwich with EXTRA CHILLI SAUCE - for about 90p.

Drove past the Carden Ave shop next to the old Snipe yesterday - they've had a glow-up. Looking really smart

It's still there (and recently renovated by the looks of things)

On Carden Avenue? Just down road from Asda?

That's definitely there, it was closed for over a month for re decorating and reopened a few weeks back. I went in that revamped one beginning of March, much smarter than it used to be, same great double garlic burger!

The Carden Avenue Uncle Sams is alive and kicking. A few weeks ago it was closed, I wondered if it was terminal, turns out it was just a refit. I bought from their yesterday for my ‘kids’, it got the thumbs up, in a different league to Macdonalds.

Oh good stuff. Must have been the new shop front that threw me.

I made quite a few of those.
Two slices of hamburger cheese, mayo, tomotos and lettuce. Thats it ! (or sauces)
I was a veggie then so used to have that as my on shift lunch , with chips and chilli sauce.
