Seeing a couple of Police Squad! references reminds me - the new Naked Gun movie is out this summer.

And I’m genuinely excited and hopeful for it, too. Although ZAZ aren’t involved, and Seth MacFarlane has done the story treatment, it has one huge thing going for it: the star.

Liam Neeson is playing Frank Drebin Jr, and he’s genuinely really funny. I’ve actually got a feeling he’s going to be great.

Couple of skits involving Neeson in a similar deadpan style we’ll see in the movie:

Wow, this is a huge risk. The writers and actors will have to go some just to get anywhere near the originals

As above, never convinced these things are a good idea

Mind you, I thought the same about the Dad's Army film they made a few years ago with Toby Jones and that was excellent

Do you think he was chosen because his name sounds similar?
No, but I distinctly remember Fulham once had two players at the same time. One was called John Collins, the other called Collins John.

I am convinced they discovered the latter when looking up John Collins’ stats on Championship Manager, and forgot to put a comma.

Neither here nor there
Controversial opinion but I didn't think the Naked Gun films were great, and I say that as a big fan of ZAZ.

I much preferred the Police Squad series it was based on, where the actors were more deadpan than in the films and the comedy was much subtler, and ultimately funnier. I thought Frank Drebin's character was goofed up a little bit too much in the films and the charm of the TV programmes was diluted too much.

I see the occasional Police Squad clip and it's standing up really well. It was a brilliant piece of work by all involved.

Um, if the casting director/director bought Neeson in off the back of his showing in the A Team as Hannibal and that's their basis of what's humerous or not then this is going to be a cluster f*** of epic proportions.
