There is already a lack of good satire on TV without losing another show.

Hilarious, given that Norcott is a self confessed working class Tory who made a bleeding heart documentary about how he was so rare in the arts, presumably forgetting the rich heritage of Manning, Davidson and Tarbuck et al who laid the path for Saturday Night comedy in the UK.

Basically The Sun has taken the news that a mediocre Daily Show rip-off hasn’t been recommissioned for a fifth series and twisted it into a “Take that, lefties!” narrative.

But don’t worry, there’ll be many more “Johnson is a racist/Donald Trump is orange and bad/squawk Tories/Brexit voters are gammons” comedies coming along.

To be fair, I have found Norcott to be generally likeable and funny. Unlike Manning, Davidson and Tarbuck!

He's good on Mash Report and comedy does need a variety of political viewpoints to be relevant. But did you see that documentary series? Jesus Christ.

The point is they opened the door for comedy on TV and it's the fact that there hasn't been single funny right wing comic ready to step into their shoes that allowed alternative comedy to take over and become mainstream.

Maybe one hasn’t been allowed to.

And those shit unfunny cockends managed to get some very high viewing figures from people who presumably liked them. Tarbuck and Davidson were very popular throughout the 80s alternative comedy boom.

(I thought Manning was ghastly, Tarbuck annoying, but Jim Davidson very good when in family friendly mode. My favourite of the old-school comics was Bob Monkhouse.)

Also, this show hasn’t been cancelled as in banned. The old episodes will be around on the iPlayer. And if Channel 4, say, wanted to bring it back, they’re free to do so.

Somewhat ironically, some of the funniest comedy characters have been those that are clearly of a right-wing persuasion, from Alf Garnett to Alan B'Stard, Al Murray The Pub Landlord to Alan Partridge.
