It's an idealistic, political statement against the injustice and inequity in society today.

I fully expect them to storm parliament and oust this bankrupt coalition government.

Must have missed it but what is the reason or motive for these riots, what started them off.

The trigger seems to have been that a young man was shot dead by police in Tottenham.

Much of the violence since then appears almost entirely unrelated to that. Anyone who claims they can explain the wider violence in a forum post is lying!

That made me giggle

The police shot dead a black youth. Allegedly shot at them with a gun, but now suspected it was a replica. He was allegedly a gang member I think.

Sounds to me like this should have been nipped in the bud by the police at the time, but they have sat back and this sort of opportunistic thuggery is the result.

i dont think its that complex: i want it, i take it, nothing going to happen about it. throw some shit at a copper while we're at it.

thought i wouldnt try to understand the burning, dont see the point of destory your own neighbourhood.

I guess the question is why it's happening now. There have been plenty of other potential excuses for this sort of thing over the past couple of decades, yet this is (probably) the worst rioting since the 80s.

I've already said it, but I'll say it again: I feel sorry for the family of the guy who was shot. While what actually happened there is unclear, their son/brother has just been killed and it would be hard enough as it is, without all this violence 'in his name'.
