Didn't know he was ever into comedy. Started off doing rather poor Norman Wisdom impressions and puerile slapstick and spent the rest of his career pulling faces and looking like Charles Laughton.
Singularly unfunny, overrated and has decided to call it quits as the work has dried up. Sensible decision when there is a lot better on the circuit.

Think hundreds of thousands who go to see him would disagree. Maybe you could replace him because you sound a right laugh.

Not one of my favourites, but each to their own.

He's good at at what he does and this appeals to a large number of people.

Hasn't really done anything of note for a couple of years or so that I can recollect (an ardent fan may put me right on that), so is this clever management for the planning of a sell-out 'comeback' tour in a couple of years time?

When I first saw him I thought he was the funniest thing I'd ever seen.

Sadly, his routine never really changed and quickly became boring.

Pretty much this , Live in Scotland and Wired & Wonderful are still pretty good but the later stuffs really samey.

Well, he's probably made his pile, so good luck to him. Quit while you're winning is generally a good idea!

Saw him play Sussex Uni, with Jack Dee, in the early 90s. Can't remember who was supporting who.

Anyway, I no longer believe musician/comedian 'retirements'.

His writing partner passed away this year I think. A brightonian. I think this may have had a lot to do with it. I believe they had co-written every tour he's ever done

I saw him when he first started as a support act with The Secret Cabaret at the Dome/Corn Exchange, years ago.I thought he was extremely funny and the act was less slapstick.

Pretty much this - got both those on DVD somewhere and they're really terrific. He's good at what he does but it's much of the same, even now.

I used to find him absolutely hilarious, but I think my sense of humour has changed over the last 10 years and I struggle to enjoy much of his later work. Saw him in Crawley donkey's years ago though and he was exceptional. One of the few I've seen live who are actually funny along with Lee Mack (sensationally, chest hurt funny) and Bill Bailey (very clever and imaginitive).

As a comparison, those who were singularly terrible were Mickey Flanagan (just swore a lot and joked about ************) and Eddie Izzard (very, very tiresome and possible drunk).

Should there be a Lee "odds-on Favourite and a Lee "rank outsider" thread, just for the sake of balance.
