I’d start by increasing tax on the wealthiest in society, crack down on nom-doms, off-shore corporations and huge companies like Amazon who pay pennies in tax relative to their fair share.

What I wouldn’t be doing with any hope of not being a one term wonder would be scraping figurative pennies hitting the worst off in society.

They rushed into WFA, which their own studies right up until last year said was important in saving the lives of thousands of indigent pensioners each winter.

It was poorly communicated, poorly planned with not enough checks and balances in place, no massive front and centre campaign to get those eligible onto pension credits (which, of course, they don’t actually want as it would cost multiple times what they’re saving from paying WFA) and all done very late in the year giving people very little time to adjust and make savings to accommodate this cut.

I fully appreciate you, @Guinness Boy and other Labour loyalists will not budge on this, or criticise anything your party does. That is your right. Much as it is for the hardcore Tory supporters on here. But there’s no point truly in having a reasoned debate where one side of the discussion thinks it’s their duty to defend everything the government does, right or wrong, because it’s their team.

You see this in football too, the tribalism. You could have one of our players walk up and punch an opposition player in the face out of nowhere, and more than one person on here will defend their actions because of the shirt they’re wearing.

WFA is a f*** up. A massive f*** up which is very likely to massively hurt their chances of a second term, because all those pensioners - if they survive the coming winters - are going right back to the Tories.

So, if that is the case, why have myself and @Guinness Boy both said, on this thread, many times that the implementation of the WFA is an almighty cock-up ???

If I were wealthy there’s not a chance on earth I’d live in the UK.

It’s a decaying country.

Beyond saving .

When you go abroad to EU countries, you get a stark reminder of how far we have sunk since Brexit.
I really don't think that is true at all.

Like countries all over the world, Covid had an enormous effect on finances.

Many, many countries in Europe have suffered hugely because of Putins war in Ukraine.

You can't judge other countries by the holiday resorts that most people go to when going "abroad".

There is much to do in every country throughout the world. It is hoped for an upward turn in economics everywhere that will help all of us. Party politics will make little difference, despite the continual nonsense spouted on forums.

It's a nonsense.

I think the UK is a fantastic country .

I think your opinion that the UK is a decaying country and beyond saving is somewhat wide of the mark.

I don't share your depressing outlook. Sorry.

Not quite sure if this should be here, in the budget thread or the Tory thread. But interesting anyway - there's usually only one reason for trying to suppress a report....

Or Declining a FOI request from the FT for further details on the black hole....

Quite right. If I was wealthy I’d just buy a villa on Lake Como and stay there TBH.

Nobody rich has ever chosen to live in Burnley.

And yet you live in France.
My stalker returns.

Oh , so sorry you utter piece of shit.

I assume that debars me from any opinion of the country i lived in for 60 years. The country I still pay a significant amount of tax to each year.

The country I still visit on a regular basis to see my children and friends.

The country that I believe has so much cultural interests and diversity and stunning places to visit.

The country that I still own a home in.

The unfortunate part is that it contains YOU.

Worst EVER moderator on this forum.

Please, do the decent thing and step down from your unwarranted position as a Moderator on this forum.

Chill out mate.
I appreciate your words.

Sooner or later Mr McKay will need to grow a pair and deal with this individual.

I have had a number of people contact me recently via e-mail, phone etc etc and feel the same way about this moderator.

He is nothing short of a menacing stalker. He needs to be removed.

He is sick.

….but you are being given some good advice by people who you have no beef with ….i’d rather you were still on this board for balance ….but (and take this the right way) you are not doing yourself any favours with the crude language and taking the bait being thrown at you …..and yes you may live in France …and you arent the only one who lives abroad and yet give opinions on this country ….so imo you are quite within your rights…lets face it quite a few of us give opinions about other countries and yet we dont live in them

I thankyou for your supporting message.

I appreciate that my accurate descriptions of this awful moderator probably don't help.

Unfortunately, he is a piece of shit and totally unsuitable to be a Moderator on this forum.

It's just a fact.

Incidentally, I live in France at present, because the weather is generally better, and the amount of land here compared to the SE of England is significantly more. The result of this is much less expensive housing in the countryside.

I like France, but it's health system in this vicinity, the dentistry and optical services are significantly worse than in the UK. Swings and roundabouts.

My nearest doctor is now 12 miles away. My nearest dentist was probably trained by the bitches of Auschwitz ( my teeth now sorted by Turkey ) and the optical chappie took two years to sort the problems for an old boy who lives nearby that I try to help, for something I got the same results from one visit to Specsavers in the UK.

I think it's isn't all bad in the UK.

PS; Message to Guinness Boy. Please do not continually respond to my postings . You are sick. You need help.

I travel around European cities a fair bit for work and I’ve definitely seen a decline. It’s also telling when we host Americans now more often than not they’d rather we go to our Barcelona or Dutch offices than spend time in the UK as well

I accept your view point. I still think Americans just visiting probably would prefer Barcelona to Burnley anyway. It was more about actually living somewhere as opposed to visiting.

Interestingly, Americans represent the largest group of people now moving to France to live.
