OK so Mayo hasn't been the greatest player ever. But he has been one of the most loyal. Possibly because nobody seriously came in for him, but that's not the point.
Forget the game against Reading, in pure footballing terms it's not anything really special.
But for those of us who saw the old players like Peter Ward, I can't imagine missing the chance to see him again on the pitch and in the stripes, even if they don't fit and he has a plastic knee. I don't think anyone would dispute the massively overused word of legend for this guy.
And those of you who haven't seen him, and I guess thats a pretty high percentage of people on this board, go and see him. You won't see any of his magic, but you will see him. Then you'll be able to say I saw Peter Ward.
Surely that's what a fan is being about, seeing the history of the club as well as just going to games?
