The most curious thing..
I've never really understood the antipathy towards Gillingham.
At least they let us use their ground when nobody else did.
It might not have been a great experience, but it saved us at the time

New majority owner so locals who support them are waiting to see whether there is any investment. He recently referred to them as " sleeping giants " so he obviously is a bit clueless. By the way it is the "Gills".

I'm still amazed that they have eeked out 14 points from 7 goals - mindblowing stuff.

The truth is, I'm neutral towards them rather than showing antipathy. They did offer us a place but they did so for their own reasons. It does stick in the craw a bit that they enforced the third season contract even when it became clear we didn't need it, but I suppose that's just business. It just wasn't particularly understanding.
I actually have a Jills supporting friend, and his dad used to run their supporters club. I'll be gutted for him when they get relegated.

Scally might not be particularly likable, to some, but it's a football team, in a community, with fans, players and a history. We've done well out of them in the past with the likes of Guy Butters and Andrew Crofts.

As much as I hated travelling there to watch the Albion, I really am struggling to come up with a time when I enjoyed a game there to be honest, the closest I came to being happy I think was the 4-4 on boxing day 97, we should have won really.
Sharing there was a necessity that we had to endure for our survival, so I am forever grateful to them.

This. In addition Paul Scally no longer controls the club - I'm assuming it's Scally most people have a problem with rather than the club itself. You'd think most people here would have slightly more sympathy for a club that has had a very dodgy owner for so long. Anyway, they were my late Dad's team so I don't want to see them drop out of the league - much rather it was Chelsea !
Agree with other posters. The Gills let us use their ground and we survived. I've no ill feeling towards them at all.
In some ways, I used to like the trips in the car out to Priestfield. I was often alone. Got to listen to 606 on the way back and all the match build-up on the way out there. It was like some sort of penance for a couple of years.

I vaguely remember hearing from somewhere that the deal was that DK paid Scally 3 years rent up front. Turned out we only needed 2 years, but the additional rent for the extra year we didn't need was never paid back.

I have a feeling that Crawley didn't want us to attract bigger crowds than them at their own ground. They feared that some of their fans would switch allegiance to us.
I am not 100% sure about this but I was working in Crawley at the time and knew a fair few of their fans.

Looking at Wikipedia they had a lot of redevelopment work between 1995 and 2000. Assuming we had some sort of contract for 3 years they would have booked that work to be done and there would have been a chain of workers and suppliers in place on the basis of the funds be available as per the contract. It's not as if Scally pocketed it and blew it on strippers and casinos.
