Baldock is an integral part of the squad. He's more effective against certain defences than others and CH knows this and pairs Murray and Hemed in those games. He's also a confidence player whose dander is well and truly up at the moment after that finish against Fulham. We definitely need a fourth striker and Manu will go. However, whoever comes in will need to fit in to the way we play and have a personality that doesn't disrupt the tremendous togetherness we have.

Not easy to find but I bet the recruitment team have a few irons in the fire already.

Slagging Baldock is mad when he's such a big part of the best TEAM we've had for decades but we're only an injury away from looking one dimensional up front.

Correct, I can see big similarities with Barnes.

As much as this forum is full of wanabee pundits talking about what players have 'in their locker' and 'the promised land' of the Premier League, 'running off the ball' isn't really a pundit term, it's a skill. It's something you can watch with your own eyes at a game, if you don't just follow the ball around and actually watch a player.

Hmmm, every player not on the ball is running off the ball. Please stop trying to justify the selection of a striker that doesn't score and is capable of going absent for long periods of time.

IF we were to go up and Sunderland were relegated then I would go all out to get Defoe.

Make sure you go alone then and spend your own money on him, I don't want Bloom wasting a penny on him.

If he can't save Sunderland he won't save us, we need to look abroad or younger players with potential.

I wasn't actually doing that, just picking up your thread that 'running off the ball' is some pundit thing.

So by your definition then some players do it well and some players do it badly? Or do all players do it to the same level of effectiveness?

How many has he scored this season, come on, what about the central defender who scored against Blackburn. It goes on and on, but i'm glad you can think of one occassion. That one goal on its own will not get us promoted and what about if Murray and Hemed are absent. CMS was lambasted for scoring double the goals, on his own up front, that Baldock has scored and now Baldock's running off the ball, is key to our success, because his goal contribution is not. :ffsparr:

I picked that example because he didn't just score, he won us the game. Strangely enough it is actually possible to play well and not score which has happened on many occasions this season and last.

Also worth noting that nearly all his goals this season have been absolutely key in collecting the points.

I just don't understand you to be honest, we're winning games and our current bearing is a 100pt season. Do you want our forwards to get one each in every game at the expense of points? We have a system, and the players we have work well enough in that system that we are going into the new year with at least 48 points on the board.

I've said from the start that we need competition in Baldock's position/role, but you make it sound like he is dead weight which is absolute nonsence.

Baldock is our third top scorer but has provided the most assists thus far. He's also hit 100% of his shots on target. http://www.seagulls.co.uk/stats/player-stats/

I'd ignore that 'shots on target' stat. That table is a nonsense. Its not total shots at all - it only counts shots that are on target or hit the woodwork. Effectively it says that he's got 11 of his on target shots, um, on target!

:lolol: so it does. What a POINTLESS bit of statting.

However, I'm assuming the bit that says he's leading us in assists in all games and that he's either set up or scored 12 goals in HALF A SEASON despite often being sacrificed when we're winning is perfectly accurate?
