Over to James Alexander Gordon for this summer's cinema releases:
Die Hard 4, Fabulous Four 2
Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Shreck 3
Oceans 11 3, Hostel 2
Harry Potter 5, Rush Hour 3
The top 6 films at the UK box office this week are ALL sequels
and when they're not turning out sequels they're making films based on TV programmes or rehashing 'high concept' flicks - Evan Almighty anyone?
looking at what's soming up this summer reveals Wil Smith vehicle 'I Am Legend' as one of the summer blockbusters in which Will plays scientist Robert Neville the last man on Earth - tagline "The Last Man on Earth Is Not Alone" - without spoiling the plot for anyone it does look to bear certain similarities to 1971's 'Omega Man' in which Charlton Heston plays scientist Robert Neville, the last man on Earth - tagline "The Last Man on Earth is Not Alone" which in turn bore certain similarities with with 1964's 'The Last Man on Earth' with Vincent Price as scientist Robert MORGAN in the titular role
to summarise, from what I can see the only big summer movie that isn't based on an old TV hit and isn't a sequel is a remake of a remake
oh and then there's 'Hairspray'
and 'The Bourne Ultimatum'
