The Hove Place - sadly no longer a pub

One of my favourite pubs in Hove was the Hove Place. It was always a bit expensive, but it was tucked away, with a real community atmosphere and a pretty good menu and mostly friendly bar staff.

Since the Golden Lion group got rid of it, the new owners have spent a load of money on a refurb and it has recently reopened.

Unfortunately it is now a Bistro, and a pub no longer. Great news for many in Hove who like that sort of place, and there were a few in there on Tuesday night, but I'm afraid I won't be going back.

An eye watering £3.75 for Harvey's makes it more expensive than the Amex and a very limited menu are not what I'm after.

The refurb at the Blind Busker has improved the place, whilst IMO the refurb at the Hove Place has fundamentally changed it.

hmmmmm...used to be my manor about 15-20 years ago, used to love the place, good bars, Indians, Italians, Los Amigos etc, now I live out in the sticks a bit It's one of the things I enjoy about the cricket season, talking of which I was hoping to get out there today and Saturday but i can't see a ball being bowled this week!, and another thing...............

I always had a bit of time for the boardroom feel of Hove Place. A glorious beer garden as well. Booo.

This new Modelo Lounge thing has opened up a 100 yards from me. It's a chain and looks pretty crap.

I just wish something interesting would open up in these parts.

That's awful news. Always went in there when at the cricket. Loved the place as an alternative to the fare offered at the County Ground. Always friendly staff and the other drinkers were ok too. Hope to be at the cricket Saturday, weather and wife permitting.

i take it you can still just grab a drink and sit in the 'Italian' garden though? Or is it much more food orientated now?

Shame as would always lose a few afternoons in there over the summer months.

the deliberate massive tax on booze and the stopping of any smoking areas ensures people drink at home....watching tv.

clever by the elite....and working.
