All the talk recently of Tony Scott's career touched upon True Romance and reminded me that

a. despite not warming at all to his style, this film is firmly in my top 10

and

b. in my mind, the scene between Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper is one of the greatest 3 or 4 minutes in a film I've ever seen.

What others spring easily to mind? I'm pondering Scenes Full of Acting, not "that bit when...".

And how about Alec Baldwin's Speech in Glengarry Glen Ross (which was written specially for him)? Brilliant.

I'm pondering Scenes Full of Acting, not "that bit when...".

You can't call a thread "The Greatest Scenes in Film" and then try and dictate what sort of scenes can be included based on what you think!

A few to get the ball rolling:
- opening of Woody Allen's Manhattan
- the bar scene in Inglorious Basterds
- the rooftop scene ("I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...") in Blade Runner
- "Singin' in the Rain" (you all know the bit!)

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but I think my answer won't be it, I'll try and avoid spoilers though:

Mr Holland's Opus
The scene where he sings to his son.

Gladiator
"Are you not entertained?!"

Armageddon
The ending

Fifth Element
The scene with the Opera

Gran Torino
Again, the ending and how it changes the mood of the entire film.

The King's Speech
The actual speech. Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush were incredible in that film.

It was also the final scene but wow *SPOILER ALERT* do not watch if you've not seen The Usual Suspects. Then go and see The Usual Suspects.

The scene in "a bridge too far" where 2 para are holding out in a bullet riddled and half ruined house at one end of Arnhem bridge with the SS panzers at the other...a German soldier under a white flag appears on the bridge to offer the paras talks on surrender

Heavily bandaged British officer: "I'm sorry but we dont have the facilities"

German soldier: " I don't understand"

" we don't have enough room to take you all prisoner"

Robert Shaw's monologue in Jaws, about when the ship he was on in the war was torpedoed, and the first twenty (?) minutes, as in opening scene, from Saving Private Ryan

And another vote here for the father scene in Field of Dreams

MAny, many scenes but some that spring to mind for pure acting ability, in no significant order..
