The greatest rock n roll band in the world ever. Fact

Of all the bands that I can remember listening to, and despite never having been a punk, I would love to have seen the Pistols live.

In their 'heyday' they did 20 minutes of insulting and taunting the audience, very amateur instrument playing very loud, and Johnny Rotten squawking incoherently. You'd only have been disappointed and you might be better off retaining reverence for them now.

Their 'revival' gigs, however, were a completely different story - as Jones and Cook had learned how to play (mostly honed from when they were called 'The Professionals'), Matlock was on bass (and not the completely bereft-of-talent Sid Vicious) and they played for well over an hour. 'Rotten' still sounded like a piss-taking karaoke drunk, but could stay there for a lot longer, having gained a little 'showbiz' technique with PIL.

but PIL were a proper band and Jah Wobble brought a lot of depth and skill with him. Let's face it, Sex Pistols were a McLaren means to an end and it was all image over substance.

I did like the later McLaren creations though. Bow Wow Wow and Adam and the Ants with the 2 drummers. Stuff like Go Wild in the Country and Ant Music all stand the test of time.
