This excellent and local festival is almost upon us and I know many of you lot go. Herr Tubthumper and his troupe will be in full effect again this year (although we have a slightly different line up to previous years).

Suuns, Gang Gang Dance and PlanningtoRock are my tips. The Paul Epworth interview should be good as well.

Also, if anyone knows of any decent un-official gigs (Skint held an excellent off-the-radar gig/party last year) or afterparties please spill the beans.

Over to you.

Yeah, a'hm going, another weekend running about Brighton a bit pissed and listening to music. Thanks for the recommendations, have to say not blow away by the line up this year but then I haven't listened to as much new music as I have done in previous years.

They seem to be keeping it hush hush that The Sounds are playing the Albert on the Saturday. Rizzle Kicks are playing the opening party which I'm rather excited about (Mirrors are also playing it.)

EMA

FIGHT LIKE APES

SONS AND DAUGHTERS

SPARROW AND THE WORKSHOP

THE JOY FORMIDABLE

WARPAINT

WE ARE THE PHYSICS

That will do for now. I love this festival so much, it makes you go out and listen to new stuff. Plus I get a free delegates pass every year, happy days.

I also want to go and check Brother out at Horatios. The idea of a bunch of awful cocksure sub-Oasis wannabees playing Whetherspoons-on-sea will amuse me no end.

Rizzle Kicks - In year 10 during my first show he was just Rizzle. He went to Blatchington Mill School (IIRC), and being in year 10 with no script in the first show and having to present, he was introduced as Drizzle. He's class though.

11:30 on the Thursday at the Corn Exchange. The only gig going on at that point probably so in classic Great Escape style either get there at 10:00 or don't get in, at the very latest get there before DJ Shadow finishes at the Dome.

Didn't bother this year. It was so badly organised last year and a pretty poor line up this year. Tis a shame.

This.

Last year pissed me off quite a bit in terms of how hard it was getting into places - as a result, it's totally deterred me from going this year.

I don't think this year's bill is as strong as previous years either, though there are a few acts to keep an eye on - Cloud Control sound like a psychadelic Aussie version of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Radio Dept might be interesting live with their dream-pop, whereas Idiot Glee is a one-man half-way house between Brian Wilson and Animal Collective.

I'm playing in Pav Tav that night, hopefully finishing early enough to go see em. Just playing covers in a function band, nothing too exciting.

It's funny how we see things differently. I think this year is much stronger than last year.

I had no trouble getting to see every band that I wanted to see last year. Maybe I just don't follow the trendy bands?? because I didn't que up all weekend apart from possibly for Broken Social Scene? And a band on Friday night which I think the whole fetival turned out for, and the que was all the way along New Road or something ridiculous but hey its not like there isnt a plethora of other bands to go and see instead so wasn't really an issue.

I'm not that enthralled by this years lineup but putting that down to not having listenend to as much new music this year, it will be just as much fun discovering new bands though and I'm excited about Cloud Control and Radio Dept.

Thanks for suggestions above as well, will give them all a listedn on Spotify this week.

Likewise, I managed to see most of the stuff I wanted to see, and a ton of good stuff I had not planned on.

Given the nature of the event you cannot expect to simply breeze into any venue as and when you choose. I think some folk forget this. A bit of realism, and a bit of plotting, should serve you well.

Waiting in queues outside while the journos walk in to the best gigs - not my idea of fun really. Shame, as the line up is generally good.

It's a horrible festival though, organised by a music industry that thinks the punters are second class.
