Seaford beach this morning, two 20-something and fairly large women wearing swimming caps and goggles entered a fairly choppy sea with a young girl, 6-8 years old, who had a full life preserver jacket on and a swim hat and goggles...all three of them otherwise fully attired in street clothes, tops, leggings, jeans and one of them a cotton hoodie, the larger of the women immediately getting flattened by a wave, then another, then another as she lay on her back in the water unable to get back up.
???

A friend of mine is a lifeboat crewman in Devon. They frequently get shouts to people who have put to sea in a leaky boat with safety equipment consisting of a mobile phone and sod all else.
Most of them come from inland towns and cities and are known as "The Birmingham Navy".
