What world do we live in where you can be sentenced to as little as 3 years for rape. I heard earlier also that the Germans have said they are aware of other similar cases.

Dominique Pelicot, the husband who drugged Gisèle and then arranged for the men to rape her while unconscious, has been given 20 years - hopefully the scumbag will die in prison.

Some sentences much longer. BBC said Gisèle‘s family are shaking their heads as shorter sentences are dished out.

Raping someone drugged? I’d like to think very lengthy sentences and made to serve them.
Agree.

Apart from the illegality and moral depravity, I've never understood how any man could enjoy sex with a woman who wasn't: a) consenting and willingly participating b) enjoying the act herself.

Truly horrible case and Gisèle Pelicot is a remarkable person. As the judge said, she went through, and went beyond, what anyone could expect to convict the men.

I don't know what it is you're referring to with the 3 years, so feel free to link it.

My understanding is that there were a variety of offences

Some longer sentences

Fifty other men were on trial alongside Dominique Pelicot.

Charly Arbo, 30, a former vineyard worker who raped Gisèle Pelicot on six occasions, including on her 66th birthday when he was 24, was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Video evidence showed he also proposed drugging and raping his own mother with Dominique Pelicot, but he said he did not go through with it.

Romain Vandevelde, 63, a former forklift driver who raped Gisèle Pelicot on six occasions over six months between 2019 and 2020, was sentenced to 15 years. He had known he was HIV positive at the time of the alleged rapes and had not worn a condom. His lawyer said that because he had been on HIV treatment since his diagnosis in 2004 he had an undetectable viral load and could not transmit the virus.

Cédric Grassot, a software technician who used to run a record shop in Avignon, was sentenced to 12 years for raping Gisèle Pelicot at her home in 2017. During the trial, he had turned to Gisèle Pelicot in court, and said: “I was your rapist. I was your torturer.”

Jean-Pierre Maréchal, 63, a former lorry driver, was sentenced to 12 years for using the same technique to drug and rape his own wife, and organising for Pelicot to rape her with him.

Worthing
Victim blaming ……. Really ?
I know who the guilty are.
You could just have easily informed me as to why she didn’t know…… If it’s in print somewhere.

He arranged for his wife to be raped multiple times by over 50 men. He should never be let out and I find 20 years offensive.

What an incredible woman she is to stand up and speak about the abuse she has faced from the person who was supposed to look after her. I just want to hear of his death.

All horrible and dreadful stuff but I don’t understand why she hung around for so long - she must have known what was going on at some stage.

Why must she? So you're suggesting that she knew what was going on, but decided to stay and allow it to keep happening. That's really quite breath-taking.

I gave this post a like and then retracted it and then reinstated it. I agree completely with what you've said, but can't wish death on someone. Sorry

Have a look online about the types and effects of so called “date rape” drugs.

Victims genuinely have no clue as to what has occurred.

We come into contact with spiking victims in my line of work. Nearly all of the situations we attend, the victims are in pub or venue or are in unfamiliar surroundings.

The only reason are aware something has happened is because they have come round in a strange place but they have absolutely no memory of anything that has happened. Nothing. Nada. Zero.

They might remember getting ready to go out or arriving at a venue and then.. nothing. TOTAL short term memory loss.

So, if you woke up in your own bed, in your own home, with seemingly nothing out of place and your husband next to you, you would literally have no idea what had happened.

And the more it happened the better the husband would become at covering up any clues.

Honestly, the drugs used enduce TOTAL short term memory loss.

Thankfully, spiking in the night time economy is nowhere near as common as people believe. It happens but it’s not common.
