You claimed 31000 new nurses plus 19000 existing nurse equals 50000 new nurses. I pointed out that is 31000 new nurses.

Now you are arguing that it's not the number of new nurses, but how many there are in total. I agree that more nurses is better. But you have changed the argument away there being 50000 new nurses.

To be fair, the Tory Manifesto did say 'more nurses', not 'new nurses'.

Says the person that believes existing staff are new staff. You are Tory wet dream. Gobble down anything they say.

You are unbelievable, Do you really think New nurses are what matters ?? I like most I`m sure believe it is Numbers of nurses that matters.

"I`m not arguing the case and changing the point" is nonsensical . I am arguing the point or you wouldn`t be disagreeing with me. and as you say I`m not changing the point .

off to bed so won`t read your no doubt considered opinion.

Inspired by your exchanges, I have just gone back and downloaded the manifesto and checked the wording. Without going through it in detail, it does say 50,000 more nurses, not new nurses.

But surely most people on reading that would assume it meant 50,000 new nurses. My own contention would be that it was deliberately worded to mislead people in to assuming 50,000 new nurses. They may not be lying, but it is deliberately misleading! which is just as bad.

I would agree that it is the number of nurses that matters, so why could they not be honest in the manifesto and say 31,000 new nurses, and that they were going to improve the retention rate of nurses, which in itself would be a worthwhile objective.

But are they saying that 19,000 nurses would leave, and that they will retain every one of them?... which is unlikely, to say the least.

I heard on the radio that it was around 25-30,000 leaving each year - so their plan is to reduce this so 19,000 fewer leave over the next five year, whilst increasing the amount of new nurses by 31,000 over the five years. Making 50,000 more nurses than if levels stayed the same as at present.

Keep up, its the new (brexit) maths curriculum . Numbers are no longer a process of logic that make sense they are there to be invented. Similarly we are all going to be better off after Brexit even though we will have less money.

Of course we will, because everything will also be more expensive. :dunce:

Contacted local Tory candidate...

Q - I got a message on the my FB feed there will be 50,000 more nurses under the Tories, is that true?

A - Yes that's correct we will go from 280,000 to 330,000. That's 31,000 new recruits and 19,000 retained staff

Have I missed something here?

Not rocket science 31,000 new recruits and 19,000 retained = 50,000 for your info retained means kept. So kept = not leaving as they would have been.

 :dunce:

So to get from 280,000 to 330,000, you think that you can retain 19,000 of the current 280,000 and add 31,000 new ones?

I think you’ll find that, at that point, you’ll have 311,000 nurses, not 330,000.

You’re not cut out for rocket science (or even basic maths) I’m sorry to say.

Does anyone have a copy of the NSC poll from the 2017 GE? Compare and contrast... Had a look but couldn't find it.

Well think its fair to say Trump's denial that the NHS is completely off the table was pre-scripted by the Tories.

So, that's lie number 14,136...

50,000 more nurses, it is in the manifesto.

You’ll notice that I was commenting on the statement (from nicko31’s local candidate) that the numbers would increase from 280,000 to 330,000.

This is 50,000 more (than the current number).

Let’s face it. They’ve tried to be misleading and can’t even tie up the numbers in the deception.

The fact that they’ve now moved to the following narrative (280,000 (now) increasing to 330,000) just show’s their contempt for the electorate. This is clearly a message for former Labour Northern Brexiteers; the Tories must view them as very very dim in order to sell them the nursing lie in this current format. Disgraceful but perfectly matching the values and personality of their nasty leader, Boris the Liar.

Here is the Health Secretary lying to the electorate:

Thats not how it works is it? The government develops a budget, then spendsthe money into the economy by clicking on a computer keyboard, to credit the central bank, then takes some of it back in taxes, then just throws the money away (or actually by pressing the delete key). It neither needs to tax or borrow since in the case of the UK, it can "print" its own money.

Oh dear. If the two brightest shills Momentum can send on to this board are you and Middlesboro Mikey it’s no wonder an idiot like Johnson is about to win an election.

In which case, at an average of 27.5k nurses leaving per year reduced to 8.5k per year, the Tories would need 92,500 ‘new’ nurses to hit Hancock’s figures of moving from 280,000 to 330,000. I don’t know why they are not pushing out that figure?

This stat should really help the Tories build migration from the likes of China, India & Pakistan:

‘The biggest group of foreign NHS workers are from the EU - 56 in every 1,000.’
