Has the Whitgift Centre been updated any time recently or is it still like stepping seamlessly into 1973?

Feel sorry for the staff. The only good thing about Croydon town centre was Allders!
Same. That's going to leave a massive retail hole in the middle of the town. Not been to the Whitgift recently, presumably its got even more boarded-up shops than Churchill Square. Country's turned to shit retail-wise for sure.

I haven't shopped in Croydon in years , it used to be good but like most shopping centres it has been affected by the big retail parks out of town . After losing reeves and now this it's a sad time for Croydon .

Wow, that's sad. Used to go there with my mum back in the early 1960s. I used to love it as there was always a large range of rides (six old pence a go) in what I thought was a big cave at the entrance. Still remember being quite impressed with Surrey Street market and thinking I'd like to be a barrow boy when I grew up - I think that's still there although I'm guessing the blind 1st world war veteran with the monkey who used to play the banjo is no longer with us.

I work in Croydon unfortunately so do pop in there sometimes. No boarded up shops last week that's for certain. Far from it. It has been brought up to date, at least as much as Churchill Square is anyway. The shops in the town are fine. It's just the people...

High streets are a sad place these days thats for sure. I was born in Penge and my Nan lived in Norwood up to a few years ago and I am shocked and saddened to see the place now, its really gone down hill, Croydon used to be the nice suburb where Terry and June used come from (showing my age) a True blue part of London.

Saw article in paper last week that said Westfield, who have built the massive Olympic retail park is buying Whitgift to completely redevelop it.

However, with economy at moment who knows what will happen!!

The Whitgift Centre was improved a few years ago and is vastly superior to Churchill Square,Close by they have Department stores,John Lewis,Debenhams,House of Fraser,Allders although in Administration will survive,Fast train takes about 40 minutes, give it a try.
