Sadly my folks were Radio 2 listeners, so my earliest musical memories are probably listening to "Sing Something Simple" with the Cliff Adams Singers whilst we drove home down the A23 on a Sunday evening after weekends with friends.

40 years on, I'm still traumatised by that bloody theme tune...

I was brought up on Queens and Eric CLapton. The first track I ever remember listening to was Bicycle race by Queen and Layle by Derek and the Dominoes.

That sounds like the sheer GENIUS of Mssrs Bacharach and David doin' its thing.

I think having older brothers and sisters is ACE for hearing good music at a young age.

I had two sisters who were 10 and 12 years older than me at the time.

I'm not saying they are bad songs, they just make me feel bad. The Herb Alpert one had an instrumental bit that had been haunting me until about four years ago and then one night it came on VH1. Luckily I was on my own as it just made me breakdown and cry. Weird or what.

was on the b/w TV called "MUSIC FOR YOU" but can't remember the name of the bloke who conducted the orchestra it was eric someone.
showing my age a bit here.???

A bit far back - but mostly Lonnie Donegan and Tommy Steele novelty records, Oliver soundtrack, and perhaps the instrumental 'Stranger on The Shore'. My parents weren't exactly 'hip'.
When Radio 1 came along, it was at least an alternative to Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren going boombuddyboom, The Archers, and whatever else.
I remember Radio Caroline, vaguely, but Radio One soon declined into repetitive dross with slick garbling from pseud DJs.
Only John Peel was really playing anything new, and he was so intent to offer an alternative, that a lot of that was inaccessible twittering or too artyfarty and difficult to sustain for long.
Luxembourg was middle-ground, so other than finding stuff for myself from friends or from reviews I trusted, that station was preferable.

Didn't a fair number of Caroline dj's end up on Radio One, once closed down, and was forced on a reluctant BBC by the popularity of the pirate stations?

Tony Blackburn, Emperor Roscoe, DLT (maybe?), Johnny Walker off the top of my head but I'm sure there were more

The last Radio Caroline broadcast for sale on ebay

My dad listened to hardly anything except James Last. Although I also remember an album he had by a pianist called Neville Dicky - he did the pot black theme tune.

From my older brother, I got Genesis & Peter Frampton.

Indeed. I have no idea if the DJs on Caroline played their own stuff or had a playlist, but Radio 1 certainly did - which is why we had Lynsey DePaul shoved down our throats twice every hour, and Grandad and Ernie were certs for the Number 1 spot.

Does the 'theme tune' to Listen with Mother count?

That's my first musical memory, and linked to the other thread is also one of my first ever memories - used to be around lunch time I think..

Was that Journey?

A timeless song

Pretty much everything of his, my dad loved his music.

He (ward, that is) died the same way as my gran, pneumonia onset due to MS. Leaves you debilitated yet he still managed to record an album in that state :(
