The first music you remember from childhood.

Following on from the Buddy Holly thread, I was wondering what peoples first musucal memory was.
Mine is Elvis Golden Greats that my mum used to play.

Beatles, plus whatever else was around in the charts in about 1972-3: Santana, Jackson 5, T Rex, plus musical, soundtracks like West Side Story etc etc. And, unlike me, they're STILL fresh'n'good.

From what age can you remember music? I reckon about from 2-3.

strangely enough that's mine too.

circa 1968?

I wasn't born til the 80's. Guess it just stood the test of time.

I remember it being an almost permanent fixture on the turntable in the lounge. That and Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen.

Funny how things stick in your mind

The Animals - House of the rising sun, big fuss and interest in the media because it was over 4 mins long when most singles were only 2 and a half. Almost front page news if I remember rightly. Strange reason for remembering it I know.

I wasn't really quite a child either but it's the 1st time I can remember anything that wasn't show music as my parents played things like South Pacific, The King and I and West Side Story incessantly.

Abort, retry, fail
I remember my dear late grandmother playing the piano and singing "I see a mouse..." She used to play that every time I visited. Not the greatest piece of music ever written!

There are some songs that seriously make me depressed whenever I hear them. There's a Herb Alpert? one, This guy's in love with you, or something, and Say a little Prayer by Aretha Frankin. I would have been about 5 and not sure if something traumatic happened at that time but they just make me feel bad.

That sounds like the sheer GENIUS of Mssrs Bacharach and David doin' its thing.

I think having older brothers and sisters is ACE for hearing good music at a young age.
