The first league game at the Amex- Just how big an occasion will it be?

And which game will we regard as the first?

The first game that happens at Falmer is bound to be a pre season friendly, as one of the "ramp up events". So will that be the "first" game at Falmer, ie at Withdean that was the friendly against Nottingham Forest
OR, will it be the first competitive game in which points are at stake? ie at Wihdean, that was the 6-0 demolition of Mansfield Town

Here & there
Having seen us rise up from the lower leagues & back down again, seen us play in the old first division, the cup final, play off finals at Both wembley & cardiff the first match at Falmer will indeed rank along side all of our past glories. It will be a very emotional day & I predict very few dry eyes in the stadium when the lads run out for the first time to the sound of Sussex By the Sea. Can't wait!

Nothing can beat the Cup Final when Smith scored the first goal.

The replay was an anti-climax.

My first Albion game at the Goldstone would be hard to beat too (anyone remember Charlie Livesey?). Suspect the first game at the Amex will probably top that though, bearing in mind what we have been through.

Sorry but the Cup Final '83 beats it hands down.

So Beach Hut, instead of being a prized cock, if you are going to bother opening this thread, then do have the ordasity of answering the said question. Im sure I could waltz through your posts and have very easy pickings indeed.

You want BH to answer your questions but you don't answer questions put to you in said thread !

To be fair he asked about the first LEAGUE match. As it happens currently I don't plan to go to any of the warm up matches - I want my first match at The Amex to be a meaningful competitive game. Might change my mind closer to the time though.

I'll be taking my sunglasses as I know I'll be in tears, I never went to Hereford, I can't imagine how nerve racking it was going to that game? I never to went to the wembley days but Cardiff was a bit emotional!

As a football match -result wise, as others have said the importance is nil.

But when you factor in the fact that we lost the Goldstone under terrible circumstances and that collectively as fans we have had to fight (against pretty poor odds _ I would say planning wise) to get this new stadium. Add in that without this stadium there would be no gus, no top of L1 and more likley no Albion league team (maybe peoples interest would have drifted to Crawley), plus that a few never made it, then the first game at Falmer will be massive.

Many of us have dreams that never happen. Well, Falmer opening will be the culmination of our dreams. When the team runs out to "Good old Sussex by the Sea" I will be blubbing like a baby.

any chance of the game being on Sunday so it could be televised? that would make it my birthday!

I f***ing hope not.

In the words of the Kinks - "I like my football, on a Saturday. Roast beef on Sunday's, alright."

I think in terms of the emotion of the day, I reckon only Hereford away (at the final whistle, obviously) will match it. Personally I'll be struggling to keep the tears in, remembering those who didn't get to see our wonderful stadium, in particular my old man.

Think you might have nailed it on the head with this.

It's easy to forget now, just how bloody important that day at Hereford was, and how desperate we were feeling before the equaliser.

I know that was the feeling at the time, but looking back on it, do you really think we would have gone out of business if we had lost that game? I don't, I think we'd be about where we are now, in League 1, having not had the time we had in the Championship.

I'd go with THIS.

As a game, others have been more important but, as an occasion, I reckon this will top the lot. The score may well end up going wrong, it often does on occasions like this, but nothing can take away from the fullfilling of a dream which, even now, still seems hardly possible.

will it be bigger than this game?
