I wasnt there in the 83' cup final, wasnt quite yet born, however, how does an occasion like that compare to you as to attending the first ever league game in a full house at the Amex?

Is it comparable in terms of the biggest occasion in the clubs history?
Is the first league game at the Amex bigger than Albions '83 Wembley cup final?
Again I cant speak from experience of the FA Cup Final, but surely the ever nearing moment of taking that seat for the first time in one of the great new stadiums in the country, watching our club in a proper ground will be a moment that will live forever in memory.:falmer:

Its a big big day, but for me the as a 13 year old the 1983 FA Cup is still the pinnacle of what Brighton and Hove Albion have ever achieved.

Instead of assuming from that thread that I was stating that the ground would not be completed before we play our first game is slightly over dramatising. I pointed out the fact that visibly there looks like alot of work still to do, I might be wrong,in fact I am probably wrong. It is a valid question being as nothing has been said, and we are all left to assume that there wont be any f*** ups with the weather and so on.

So Beach Hut, instead of being a prized cock, if you are going to bother opening this thread, then do have the ordasity of answering the said question. Im sure I could waltz through your posts and have very easy pickings indeed.

Well since you asked..............

Important but as yet nothing beats the Cup Final in '83, or the semi-final at Highbury or the play off final at Cardiff.

But it is the dawn of a new era.

BTW several posters prize my cock

I think in terms of the emotion of the day, I reckon only Hereford away (at the final whistle, obviously) will match it. Personally I'll be struggling to keep the tears in, remembering those who didn't get to see our wonderful stadium, in particular my old man.

Probably be the worst day of my life. Definitely, in fact. Never wanted a new stadioupolopodous. Bollocks to Skint. Dick Out.

Quite a few of us share that sentiment-it will be a day of celebrations but also a very sad day for me.

I expect there will be more tears shed on August 6 2011 than at any other Albion game-ever. Can't wait.

I was 12 and at wembley in '83 and to this day I have trouble explaining just how it feels to have been there, but 6th august this year will be much more than "just" a cup final as my son will be with me to share the experience of the biggest Albion achievement in his lifetime so far, a day which will mean so much to so many. For every one that hasnt made it there will be another youngster right at the start of their lifelong Albion rollercoaster ride.

I first got into football through World Cup 98. First seasons I cared about domestic football was 97/98. Who remember what happened that season? For the entire time I've been a Brighton fan, we've basically been looked upon as a small club. When we made it to Div 1, people said it was only on Zamora's back. We've almost always been today write-off's and this stadium represents a turning point in the history of the club and I can't wait, even if it's going to take me an age to figure out how to actually get a season ticket.

The game itself isn't that 'big' at all. At the end of the day result-wise it's only the first game of the season with nothing at stake; Newcastle, Highbury and Hereford were all far bigger games. But as an occasion, yes probably the biggest in our history, it's at least up there with the FA Cup final, and probably the Charity Shield, although I was too young to go to that match.

It's the final triumphant culmination of YEARS of struggle, first against Archer, then SWEAT (or whoever they were), and then against Baker and LDC. It will be our equivalent of V.E. Day.

It will be one of the greatest days in the clubs history but for me will never surpass the clubs first appearance in an FA Cup Final, especially as it was at the old Wembley. Unfortunately, younger fans missed that and with the demise of the status of the Cup final, don't appreciate what an occassion it actually was in those days.

NO - Unless it is against Manchester United in the premier League, then we have had bigger games than the opening game at Falmer.

Not unless it gets massive media coverage and is shown LIVE in 140 countries wordwide, like the 83 Cup Final

Indeed it will. Just as seeing Jimmy Melia lead us out at Wembley at 2.50pm on Saturday 21 May 1983 lives in the memory.

Can't wait!

Its history in the making for our club and like the first fans at the Goldstone  nobody* will be able to say I was at the first competitive game in the new stadium for at least another 100+ years!
