The FA Respect The Referee Campaign

What a great idea it is to try and have some protection for the referee, and try and make professional footballers act more like role models to everyone that worships them.

But if they launch thism there should be some consistency.

Nicky Forster, the old wise pro he is, lost his temper with the lino, shouted at him, and got a booking. He desreved the booking and was rightly punished

Then on Sunday, I settle down to the boring Premiership shite that is the Charity Shield.

Man U arent awarded a penalty, which maybe they should have. Their players surround the ref, scream in his face and NOTHING. Teves then grabs a Pompey player by the throat, and the ref just watches it and does NOTHING.

Why did these 2 acts go unpunished? Is it because they are Man U and set their own rules? The Man U playes do this in a friendly, so what are they going to be like when the season starts.

They have made a campaign to stamp it out, yet when given a high profile chance to enforce the new initiatives, they do fcuk all about it

or could you be aboard the anti Man Utd bandwagon that questions every decision which goes in their favour and says "its cos they're Man U blah blah"

Tevez should have got sent off. United should have had a blatant penalty, 1 decision in favour one against

In fairness it's not just Man Utd, it's all Premiership teams. Players will get away with all kinds of ridiculous behaviour that won't be tolerated in the lower leagues. Unfortunately the Premiership is effectively self-governed so they do what the hell they like and bollocks to the FA and the Football League.

no it's not all the premiership teams, it is the "big" premiership teams. middlesbrough last year had aliadiere sent off for f*** all and mascherano got nothing, when boro appealed, they extended the ban. doubt that has ever happened to united

Great respect from the Chelsea Lads, letting the captain speak to the referee:clap:

to be fair Mark Halsey is a cock and that was never a sending off. I'm all for respect but the Chelsea players there have a very valid point to make.

But that, according to the FA's powder puff campaign, is not the way to make it.
What do those players think Halsey is going to do as a result of them arguing? Change his mind?

"Hmmm, I was previously convinced that was a professional foul, Frank, but now you and your extremely gentlemanly team mates have pointed out the presence of a covering defender, I've seen the error of my ways! How foolish of me, and how considerate of you! Have a drop ball, sir!"

Why can't Premiership referees book players for remonstrating?

Andy Whing has picked up enough yellows for doing it - are Premiership players too special to be disciplined or something?

The respect campaign is laughable and about as much use as some inner london council campaign to stop kids shooting each other by producing panphlets and bus stop adverts with graffiti-style writing on the front.

football has a culture of dissent, lack of respect for officials and self pity when it comes to decisons that goes to the bone.

Thats what makes it good.

the day I see a whistle blowing for a controversial decision and everyone dutifully trotting back ten yards, gay handbag fights not treated theatrically like serious assaults, and supporters accepting officials errors in good humour is the day football finally (and it is close to it) disappears up its own arse.

stupid campaign run by stupid people for stupid people.

It's attitudes like that is what's wrong with the game at grass roots level.

I regularly help out refereeing youth football and the nature and attitude of many supporters and sadly, parents is terrible. They feel that they can verbally and in some extreme circumstances physically abuse volunteers who just want help out their local kids team.

The campaign for Respect isn't just involving officials at Premiership and League level, but right through football.

I'd suggest you go around Brighton & Hove on a Sunday morning and take a look at how badly volunteers get treated and spoken to. Perhaps then, you'll not make such blinkered comments.

you are barking up the wrong tree mate.

it is the people kicking off at YOU or Sunday League Football who are too moronic not to realise what arseholes they are pretending to be professional footballers, rather than me enjoying one of the traditions of watching professional football, that are the problem.

good for people trying to sort out idiotic thuggery at Happy Valley on a sunday morning with some hungover bloke from the Dog and Duck acting the hardcase. Think I havent played Sunday football in Brighton and Hove and seen the jumped up immature dickheads performing?

What that has to do with me enjoying the thrills and spills of the professional game is a tenuous link at best, and very little to do with my attitude to that. The Respect Campaign is pissing in the wind when it comes to the professional game, thats my point.

When it comes to grass roots I hope it works and it has my full support though.
