the very best way to mark a break from the past and dodge the whole circus around his impeding trial is simply not take him. it a doubt if he is genuinely even fit with this broken rib, alot of other players would be sidelined with less.

I dont think Terry is all that anyway, his positioning is good and there is no doubting that he is brave and will put his body on the line for club and country but I think his lack of pace is a big worry and Rio is a starter im my opinion and I dont see how those two could play together. I would take him as a squad player but I would rather see one of the younger players given a chance.

I agree - JT's time has passed. He is too inconsistent these days and so easily exposed by pace. I think JT's performance last night was quite timely for Hodgson. Anyway I'm surprised he retained his place after the England defence was taken apart at the last World Cup. Plus we don't need all his personal 'baggage' and 'bigger than the Manager' attitude let alone all the wrong headlines that will surround his court case. It will be a good way for Hodgson to establish his authority. No doubt Lampard and Cole will whinge to the media about JT getting dropped but thats tough, England is bigger than one player.

I also think Rio Ferdinand is past it. Both JT and Rio were great players until 2 or 3 years ago but IMHO would be targetted by the opposition at the Euros.

It may be a bit soon for Cahill, Jones, Walker etc but they have to start sometime. I would be happy to see a young squad have a go.

Whilst on the subject of England I really hope that Hodgson doesn't persevere with journeymen like Downing either, but then we don't have an embarassment of world class riches either.

Agreed. I think Roy Hodgson has an almost unique opportunity as an England manager coming into a tournament, in that fan expectation levels are at an all time low, so he almost has a free hand to try out a young, fresh squad. I think a lot of fans are fed up with the so called "golden generation" having failed to deliver, and are ready for a period of rebuilding.

Either Rio or JT stay at home, I think that is clear, and both are seeing a waning of their abilities. Personally, I think Rio has lost more of his game over teh last 2 years than JT, plus with Cahill looking like the best around, his partnership with JT at club level will probably make that the pairing for England.

"No smoke without fire..." is one of the most pointless and damaging comments that can be made, as it allows you to justify any rumour.

Having said that, I wouldn't take John Terry as he simply isn't good enough for international football and hasn't been for at least a couple of years. He is living by reputation alone. Ditto Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard.

I said as soon as Capello left that we should just throw in the kids and give them experiance in a major tourniment before the next world cup. Lets not forget that most of the young players in the current squad are the same ones that got to back to back U21 finals under Pierce (who I think should have been named the England manager for the Euros and then worry about his replacement after that)

You are right, no-one is expecting anything from this year, qualificaton from the group would keep people happy (except The Sun who will demand that Redknapp gets the job, even if we lose in the final on a 10 yard offside goal in the last minuite!)

God we are struggling at centre back. It only seems like yesterday that we had Ferdinand and Campbell at the back, fully fit and playing as well as any central defensive partnership I,d seen for England.
