That's the way to do it, I lived there for a few years and it works perfectly. Also, when the cycle route is by a road, they make it a separate construction, they have their own kerbs, road markings, and are completely separate from the road alongside it. At junctions they have give ways, Stops, and also pedestrian crossings, just like mini roads. When I was there they also allowed mopeds/scooters under 50cc on them.

Seems very flat and lots of room. Would never work in Brighton. Also notice how very few are wearing helmets. Not so safe.

Ah but if they were ever to build cycle roads like this in this country, people would say that it is a 'waste of money' and 'nobody will use them'.

Also, even though they don't wear helmet, I'll bet my house that more people are killed here by motor vehicles WITH helmets on than are killed over there without.

This mainly shows cycle paths alongside major trunk roads, very sensible idea.
When you get to areas of holland where there is no room for a separate cycle path they just have 'mixed use roads', or to give them their real name 'roads'. The main difference is that drivers accept other road users as not only being legitimate, but as having priority as they are vulnerable. Rather than drive their kids to school they let them cycle, almost universally without helmets, knowing that those who do have cause to make their journey in a car, van or lorry will not behave like sociopaths.

It's a nightmare driving in Holland, as you have to give way to Cyclists, instead of knocking them off their bikes and running them over!
