Can’t speak for America but here in the UK, I would suggest our attitude towards racism has improved massively over the last 10-20 years . Lots of stuff that would have been said even in jest wouldn’t be said nowadays . The idea we are going backward is simply not true .
Dare I say it has never been a better time to be black & living here in the UK . No it’s not perfect but a big improvement even on 20 years ago and a massive improvement on 50 years ago . Nothing happens over night but big improvements have been made with peoples attitude .

I didn't want to start another thread about Harry and Megan but whatever your views on her, you couldn't wish a miscarriage on anyone. It's desperately sad news.

What relevance does the miscarriage of a former US actress / former Royal Meghan Markle have to the everyday lives of women and girls in lockdown / recession / covid-hit Britain? Absolutely none.
In fact, if anything it's counterproductive because it's a reminder for those women in the UK struggling - in silence - with miscarriage and lockdown / covid / recession there is someone out there loaded with cash bleating about her lot, again.

Does that mean that only people from certain backgrounds are allowed to discuss this and raise awareness of it? Will the media give two shits about someone in Crawley who has been through it, or someone in the public eye that can get people talking about it?
I'm struggling to see why anyone would see this as a bad thing, unless there's some weird, unnecessary prejudice attached to it

Miscarriage is part of the human condition, an everyday tragedy that affects tens of thousands of British women every year. We all know someone who has miscarried.
I agree that "raising awareness" is a good thing when applied to an invisible disability, or a form of hidden prejudice or discrimination. However, this isn't any of those things.
This is all about "raising awareness" of how Meghan Markle is feeling right now, nothing more. And if she wants to be treated like an ordinary citizen then she should do what everyone else that is ordinary does in this situation, which is confide in her close friends and family about how she is feeling, not behaving like a media whore.
Yes, none I suppose - but neither does the New York Times, to which she gave the interview, have much relevance to women in Britain either, so I guess the message wasn't aimed at the women and girls in Covid-hit Britain anyway.
No great fan of the Sussexes, but can't see that she's done much wrong here.

Miscarriage is very common, with about 10-15% of pregnancies ending in miscarriage. I've had a couple myself. I wouldn't dream of trying to get anyone's sympathy, because you have no idea what they might be going through themselves. What if they have been trying for a child for years, and you already have one but still complain about having a miscarriage? or if they had to have a hysterectomy or medical procedure that has left them infertile?
You run the risk of deeply upsetting someone. It's the kind of thing you might discuss with a very close friend, but not announce via a press release.
I’m sorry but there’s many that have suffered far worse and she isn’t raising awareness of anything other than the normal circle of life especially someone her age. Just what we’re supposed to do with this awareness is beyond me.

Sorry but yes. A early stage miscarriage is suffered by many and some frequently. It is the natural.

What next? Prince William raises awareness of how men in their late 30s may start to go bald? The Queen raises awareness of how women in their 90s start to lose their eyesight? Prince Phillip raises awareness of how it can become more difficult to drive when you approach 100?
