THE delay - is it good news.

I know, I know, another SC thread. I'm sorry, but it is a slightly important subject to us.

Following on from the thread about Asoct talking to Madejski, I think it's not going to plan for Reading.

SC said he would make a decision after the weekend, and implied early this week. He's always been straight with us in the past. It's now Wednesday, and there's still nothing planned (as far as I'm aware) for an announcement from Reading.

Now, either SC is playing hardball with them, or he's not the only one in the frame. The longer it goes on, the more hopeful I am that he won't go. (I've probably put the kiss of death on it now).

Why should it still be going on - it doesn't take that long to sort things out?
Example :
Mad How much you want ?
SC £250k p.a.
Mad We'll give you £150k
SC No.
Mad Ok we'll think about it to 10 days (Don't think so somehow)

Am I missing something?

We are also getting very close to Thursday and last week talks were suspended so SC could prepare for the game against Blackpool.

Will his principles be intact again this week or will the lure of Mad Jet Ski's filthy lovely lucre lure him away?

I know Brixtaan. I feel the same too.

Monday, I was convinced he was gone.
Tuesday, I was expecting an announcement.
Today. Why nothing?

Could the support he got on Saturday have had an effect?

Questions, questions, questions.

I want some answers. Please, whatever it is, just let us know. I can't take much more.

It certainly is. I think Morgan Freeman says 'Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. It can destroy a man.' Or something. Little did he realise he was talking about relegation battles, new stadiums, manager crises...

Maybe the delay was to getus so desparate for a decision that we don't care about what the outcome is.

Not the real one
SC aint going nowhere. As soon as he was incharge on saturday i didn't think he would go. Reading cannot offer enough for him to leave. Moneywise and the playing side. They have no more money to spend and Coppell doesn't seem to like Madejski.

I think it can only be good news. At the very least it means it's not a clear cut decision for him.

The delay can only be a good thing, if he was going it would have happened last week.
Pardew would have warned SC about Mad jet ski, you can bet on it.
SC is here to stay (well until the next job offer anyway).
The only problem is all the wrangling has alerted all the other clubs to what a good manager we have.

If it was so cut and dried don't you think we'd have heard a statement from Coppout or Dick by now? It is clearly not as simple as we think.

If he really was staying we'd have heard by now. There are no reasons at all for any further delay in an "I'm staying" statement. Is there?

I'm beginning to think that Coppell will move on, just not to Reading.

The problem with Reading from a new manager's point of view is that they will now have a reputation of a club who will stand in the way of a manager's career progression and that is thanks to Madjeskis naiivety.

Furthermore, he hasn't really built up any track record of loyalty at Brighton yet. What does his CV say? "Took the club one place higher than when I inherited it but couldn't save them from relegation, but the club is now top with less than a quarter of the season gone" It's not *that* inspiring to an outsider. Thinking it through, I think he would be better off making sure the job is done (promotion) and thinking about moving in the summer.

On another note, Dick Knight has a reputation amongst managers as being an excellent chairman to work for - he doesn't stand in the way of players or management progressing their careers. If you ask me, Knight's open approach is clever and very worthwhile. I think we are just going to have to live with a high management turnover as the price to pay for being successful all the while we have a shit ground. Do you think Coppell or Leon would be here if Knight adopted Madejski's attitude? I think not. Let's just hope richer and bigger clubs continue to sniff around - it means we're being successful and doing something right.

Totally agree with you Simster. The fact we always find ourselves in this situation is a credit to the quality of managers and what they've achieved.

Now that might make some sense. All the rumourmongering is pointing one way - to Coppell leaving, and also to Knight having someone lined up. So it is more than possible that as Reading announce their new manager, we announce ours.
