Got this fictionalised 'biography' of Brian Clough's management spell at Leeds for Crimbo. Normally I don't do fiction but it's being hailed as a 'masterpiece' and will hopefully have some BHA stuff in there. Anyone else read it?

Not really, a little about Bamber and how well he got on with Cloughie, a few comments about how shite the team were.

A fantastic book however, and strongly recommended.

Ta. The guy certainly did his research - massive bibliography in the back.

I've been given the book as a pressie and I've made a start. Once you get used to the split person writing style its good. I'm just not sure if I'm going to like it because the author blurs the truth a little I think.

Mind you, Cloughie is the best English manager we have produced in the last 30 odd years and will always be an enigma.

Very good book. There is a film of it out soon.

As research for a course I am studying, I ordered about 30 different books of different genre from Amazon and that was one of them.

Quite a gripping read and I managed to polish it off in less than two days.

I bought it for myself whilst xmas shopping.. So it's actually fiction, but featuring real people right? Or is it mostly 'real'?

It's all real people, Clough, Taylor, the Leeds players, directors and backroom staff. It tells the story of Clough's 44 day managership of Leeds, true results, true league positions the lot. It tries to get inside Clough's head and tell it from his viewpoint, is all. I think it succeeds brilliantly.

Agreed 100%. If you like his style then try GB84. It is not an easy book to read, but well researched and very revealing about the state v the miners strike.

Cheers, will seek it out.

Should be very interesting to see what they do with the Damned United film, whether they tell the story straight, or if they try and capture the feel of the book, internal dialogue, dream sequences etc.
